Supported Applications

The EA2-TX-M12 Series is the M12-connector version of Michell Instruments' Easidew 2-wire dew-point transmitter, a compact loop-powered instrument for measuring moisture content in gases. The 5-pin M12 connection makes wiring quick and repeatable, and it enables both a 4 to 20 mA analog output and Modbus RTU over RS485 digital communications from the same device.

It is well suited to natural gas, hydrogen, nitrogen, air, and inert gas systems, and to compressed-gas drying where product quality depends on low moisture. A choice of process connections lets the EA2-TX-M12 fit new or existing sample points, giving both a local current signal and networked data for continuous dew-point monitoring.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The transmitter measures dew point over -110 to +20°C (-166 to +68°F), with a companion range of -100 to +20°C (-148 to +68°F), resolving readings to 0.01 °C. It holds an accuracy of ±0.5 °C / ±0.9 °F with a repeatability of ±0.2 °C, and provides a typical T90 response of less than 10 seconds.

Output is a 4–20 mA loop signal with RS485 / Modbus RTU communications, powered from 10–30 VDC into a load of up to 500 Ω at 24 VDC, terminated through the M12 connector. The sensor withstands pressures up to 45 MPa (450 barg / 6500 psig), and its wetted parts use 316L stainless steel with an HMWPE guard.

The EA2-TX-M12 carries an IP67 enclosure and operates over a process range of -100 °C to +100 °C, an ambient range of -40 °C to +85 °C, and storage to -40 °C to +85 °C. The probe measures 12 mm in diameter with a 25 mm insertion length, a 50 mm stem, and a 100 mm overall length. Approvals include ATEX, IECEx, UL, CSA, and NEC.

Configuration Options

The EA2-TX-M12 is ordered as a configured transmitter, with a single alphanumeric code that fixes each feature to the application. The configurable axes are:

  • Connection — a G1/2" BSP, 3/4" UNF, or 5/8" UNF process connection to match the sampling point.
  • Range — a -100 to +20°C or -110 to +20°C dew-point range, or a non-standard configured range in °C, °F, or ppmV.
  • Protection — a standard HDPE guard against fine particulates, or a stainless-steel sintered guard.
  • Oxygen cleaning — standard, or cleaned for oxygen service, which is offered only with the stainless-steel sintered guard.

The choices that most change the delivered instrument are the process connection, which sets how the probe mounts, and the guard type with its oxygen-cleaning option, which together govern particulate protection and suitability for oxygen-enriched media. The M12 connection itself unlocks the combined analog and Modbus RTU output capability.

Key Product Differences

Ordering follows the parent code and its four feature positions, EA2-TX-M12 - <Connection> - <Range> - <Protection> - <Oxygen Cleaning>. The lineup spans the letter combinations from EA2-TX-M12-AAAA through EA2-TX-M12-CBBB, covering the three process connections, both standard dew-point ranges, either guard, and the oxygen-cleaning option.

Under the previous ordering system the same choices were expressed as the base model plus feature codes for connection, range, guard, and oxygen cleaning. Across every configuration the sensing platform and M12 output stay the same — the model number simply records the chosen connection, range, guard, and oxygen-cleaning options. A 5-pin mating connector is ordered separately from the accessories list.
