Supported Applications

The Dwyer SL-2000 Series duct smoke detectors provide early detection of smoke and products of combustion in air moving through HVAC supply, return, or both. These devices are designed for commercial, industrial, and residential applications to prevent the recirculation of smoke by air handling system fans and blowers. Upon detection, complete systems may be shut down.

Installation should reference NFPA 72, NFPA 90A, NFPA 92A, NFPA 5000, IMC, and IFC standards. This detector is not intended for open area protection nor should it be used for early warning detection or to replace a regular fire detection system.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The SL-2000 series operates within specific ambient temperature ranges depending on the model: 32°F to 158°F (0°C to 70°C) for the SL-2000-N and 32°F to 140°F (0°C to 60°C) for the SL-2000-P. Humidity ratings are specified as 10% to 85% RH Non-Condensing/Non-Freezing.

Air sampling verification is UL Listed without insert installed at 300–4,000 ft/min (SL-2000-N) or 1,000–4,000 ft/min (SL-2000-P). With an insert installed, the range is 100–2,000 ft/min for SL-2000-N and 100–4,000 ft/min for SL-2000-P. The response time is documented as 15 to 20 seconds.

Power supply options include 24VAC, 24VDC, 115VAC, and 230VAC. Standby current varies by voltage: 55.0mA (24VAC), 14.0mA (24VDC), 22.0mA (115VAC), or 14.0mA (230VAC). Alarm currents are 190.0mA, 68.0mA, 32.0mA, and 18.0mA respectively for the same voltages.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable detection technologies and output configurations to meet specific installation needs:

• Detection Technology: Available as Ionization (SL-2000-N) or Photoelectric (SL-2000-P).
• Housing & Enclosure: Features a gray plastic back box with clear plastic cover (Makrolon 94V-0). The SL-2000 is rated NEMA 1; the WP-2000 weatherproof enclosure option provides NEMA 3R.
• Outputs: Configurable relay outputs include 2 sets of form "C" rated at 10A @ 115VAC resistive and 1 set of form "A" rated at 2A, or a single set of form "C" rated at 10A @ 115VAC.
• Electrical Connection: Screw terminals (Terminal Block).

The series supports various accessories including remote sampling tubes (STN-1.0, STN-2.5, STN-5.0, STN-10.0), FAST TUBE sectional tubing for duct widths up to 8ft, and test gas options such as TG-2000 or TG-2500.

Key Product Differences

The SL-2000 series distinguishes between two primary model families based on the sensor element:

• SL-2000-N (Ionization): Utilizes Ionization Detector Head 55000-225APO. Operates in ambient temperatures of 32°F to 158°F (0°C to 70°C).
• SL-2000-P (Photoelectric): Utilizes Photoelectric Detector Head 55000-328APO. Operates in ambient temperatures of 32°F to 140°F (0°C to 60°C). This model is described as a conventional, 4-wire, universal voltage photoelectric duct smoke detector.

Replacement sensor heads are available for both types: 55000-225APO for ionization and 55000-328APO for photoelectric. The WP-2000 accessory provides a weatherproof enclosure option specifically for SL-2000 models.
