The Omega Dual Mineral Insulated Thermocouple Cable series provides four-wire construction with high-purity magnesium oxide (MgO) insulation for thermocouple signal transmission.   • Type J: Values range from 8.9 down to 0.22 Ω/Dbl. ft. across the diameters.
  • Type K/N: Values range from 15.0 down to 0.37 Ω/Dbl. ft.
  • Type T: Values range from 7.7 (or 7.7/3.04) down to 0.19 or 0.298 Ω/Dbl. ft., depending on the specific sheath material and diameter row.
  • Type E: Values range from 18.0 down to 0.45 Ω/Dbl. ft.

A note in the specifications states that compacted magnesium oxide insulation is hygroscopic (absorbs moisture).

Configuration Options

The series offers extensive configuration options across wire calibration, sheath material, diameter, and special limits of error.

  • Wire Calibration: Available in Iron-Constantan J; CHROMEGA™-ALOMEGA™ K (or N); Copper-Copper-Constantan T; and CHROMEGA™-Constantan E. Type N is available with Inconel® sheath.
  • Sheath Materials: Standard options include 304 Stainless Steel, 310 SS, 316 SS, 321 SS, INCONEL 600, and Super OMEGACLAD™ XL. Hastelloy-X is available (consult sales for price).
  • Diameters: Sheath diameters of 0.040, 0.062, 0.125, 0.188, and 0.250 inch.
  • Special Limits of Error (SLE): Available by adding the suffix "-SLE" to the model number; this adds 20% to the price.
  • Packaging: Continuous lengths are available from stock. The cable can be cut to length or sold in continuous lengths, with a minimum order of 5 feet (specify length in feet).

Key Product Differences

The model number structure reflects the specific configuration:

  • Sheath Material Codes: "304" denotes 304 Stainless Steel. To specify other materials, change the prefix: use "310", "316", or "321" for respective stainless steel grades (no additional cost); use "XL" for Super OMEGACLAD™ XL; and use "HASTX" for Hastelloy-X.
  • Inconel Sheath: Models beginning with "INC-" indicate an Inconel 600 sheath. For Type N, change the 'K' in the model number to 'N'; no extra charge applies.
  • Diameter Codes: The numeric segment (e.g., 040, 062, 125) corresponds to the sheath diameter in inches multiplied by 1000 (e.g., "040" = 0.040 inch).
  • Suffixes: The suffix "-DUAL" indicates split signal construction. Adding "-SLE" designates Special Limits of Error.

CCan this thermocouple measure temperature as high as 800C?

The MI cable listed is rated for applications up to 1070 deg C. This wire can be welded in the field at one end to create a thermocouple and sense temperature.
