Supported Applications
The Omega DRG-AR Series consists of DIN rail mount limit alarm modules designed for dual setpoint monitoring and contact closure output. These field-configurable units accept a variety of input types including thermocouples, RTDs (Resistance Temperature Detectors), DC voltage/current, and AC voltage/current signals.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 to 55°C (32 to 131°F) with storage capability from -25 to 70°C (-13 to 158°F). Humidity ratings specify operating conditions of 15 to 95% (@45°C) and soak testing at 90% for 24 hours (@65°C).
Performance specifications vary by input type:
- Accuracy/Repeatability (DRG-AR-AC, DRG-AR-DC): 0.2% of full scale.
- Accuracy/Repeatability (RTD): ±0.2% of full scale for constant temperature; lead wire effect is less than 1% of the maximum input temperature span.
- Accuracy/Repeatability (Thermocouple): 0.2% for temp > 0°C, 0.3% for temp < 0°C.
- Response Time: <250 msec (10-90%) in Normal Mode with analog filtering. In Dynamic Deadband mode, relay status changes when the proper setpoint condition exists for 100 msec.
The modules provide electrical isolation of 1800 Vdc between input, contacts, and power, meeting IEC 801-2 Level 2 (4 KV) ESD susceptibility standards. Power requirements are 9 to 30 Vdc with typical consumption at 1.5 W and a maximum of 2.5 W.
Configuration Options
The DRG-AR Series is available in four primary input configurations, each supporting specific measurement ranges via an input selector switch:
- DRG-AR-AC (AC Voltage and Current):
- Voltage Mode: 100 mV to 200 Vac.
- Current Mode: 10 mA to 100 mAAC.
- Frequency Range: 40 to 400 Hz.
- DRG-AR-DC (DC Voltage and Current):
- Voltage Mode: 10 mV to ±200 V.
- Current Mode: 1 mA to ±100 mA.
- Excitation: 24 Vdc, 20 mA maximum (for RTD/other sensor excitation).
- DRG-AR-RTD:
- Sensor Types: Pt100, Pt500, Pt1000 (α = 0.00385); Cu10, Cu100, Ni120, NiFe604.
- Connection: 3 wire.
- DRG-AR-TC:
- Sensor Types: B, E, J, K, R, S, T thermocouples with specific temperature ranges per type (e.g., Type K from -270 to 1372°C).
Alarm functionality includes two SPDT (form C) relays, one relay per setpoint. Relay contacts are Silver-Cadmium Oxide with current ratings of 5A at 120 Vac, 2A at 240 Vac, and 5A at 28 Vdc. Limit differentials (deadbands) are adjustable: >50 mV/5 mA ranges offer 0.25% to 5% of span, while <50 mV/5 mA ranges offer 1% to 5% of span.
Mounting and Accessories
The modules mount on standard 32 mm or 35 mm DIN rails. Electrical connections utilize screw termination for 12-22 AWG wire. Available accessories include:
- DIN Rails: RAIL-35-1 (1 m length) and RAIL-35-2 (2 m length).
- Shunt Resistor: DRG-C006, 0.1Ω, 5 W.
- Power Supply: DRN-PS-1000, DIN rail mount, 95 to 240 Vac input, 24 Vdc @ 1 A output.
Key Product Differences
The series is differentiated by the specific input signal type supported:
- DRG-AR-AC: Dedicated to AC voltage and current limit alarms with overload protection up to 300 Vac max.
- DRG-AR-DC: Handles DC voltage and current, including excitation for external sensors; includes overcurrent limits of 170 mA RMS max.
- DRG-AR-RTD: Configured specifically for resistance temperature detectors with support for Pt, Cu, Ni, and NiFe elements in a 3-wire configuration.
- DRG-AR-TC: Designed for thermocouple inputs featuring burnout detection (<1.5 microamp bias current) and overvoltage protection of ±10 V differential.
