Supported Applications
The Omega DMD4380 Series functions as a field-rangeable signal isolator, transmitter, and converter designed to accept DC voltage or current inputs and provide an optically isolated DC voltage or current output linearly related to the input. The series is engineered for applications requiring amplification, conversion, or scaling of process signals. Documented use cases include isolating single-ended PLC inputs and interfacing with panel meters, PLCs, recorders, data acquisition systems, DCS, and SCADA systems.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series provides full 3-way isolation (power to input, power to output, input to output) rated at a minimum of 1200 Vrms for ground loop elimination and noise reduction. Output linearity is specified as better than ±0.1% of span with typical stability better than ±0.02% of span per °C. The operating ambient temperature range is -10°C to +60°C, with a response time of 70 milliseconds typical.
Input ranges cover DC voltage from 0-10 mVDC to 0-130 VDC and bipolar voltage from ±5 mVDC to ±65 VDC. Current inputs span 0-200 µADC to 0-50 mADC, with an input offset adjustable in ±100% increments of 15%. The unit includes a 15 VDC regulated loop excitation supply for the input and a 20 VDC nominal output loop power supply. Common mode rejection is rated at a minimum of 100 dB.
Power Supply Options
- DMD4380: 85-265 VAC, 50/60 Hz or 60-300 VDC (maximum 2 W).
- DMD4380-DC: 9-30 VDC or 10-32 VAC 50/60 Hz (maximum 2 W).
Configuration Options
The DMD4380 Series supports a wide envelope of configurable input and output ranges selected via rotary switches. Output signals include voltage options from 0-1 VDC to 0-10 VDC, bipolar ±5 VDC or ±10 VDC, and current outputs ranging from 0-2 mADC to 0-20 mADC (including 4-20 mA). The series accommodates input impedance of 1 MΩ minimum for voltage inputs and 50 Ω typical for current inputs.
Configuration Features
- Housing: IP 40 ABS/polycarbonate enclosure mounting to a 35 mm DIN rail (sold separately).
- Dimensions: 22.5 mm W x 117 mm H x 122 mm D.
- Connections: Four 4-terminal removable connectors supporting up to 14 AWG wire size.
- Diagnostics: Green and red output LEDs for visual process signal monitoring; an output test button sets the output to a potentiometer-adjustable level (0-100% of span) when pressed.
- Adjustments: Multi-turn potentiometers allow zero and span compensation with ±15% of span adjustment range typical.
Key Product Differences
The series is distinguished by two primary model configurations based on power supply requirements. The standard DMD4380 accepts universal AC or high-voltage DC input (85-265 VAC, 50/60 Hz or 60-300 VDC). The low voltage option, designated as the DMD4380-DC, operates on lower power rails of 9-30 VDC or 10-32 VAC. Both models share identical measurement ranges, isolation specifications, and physical dimensions.
