Supported Applications
The Rotronic Series HC2 Low Dew Point and Temperature Probe is a precision instrument designed for trace moisture measurement in compressed air systems, refrigeration driers, and adsorption driers. The probe measures dew point, temperature, relative humidity, and pressure using AirChip4000 technology with the HYGROMER® LDP-1 sensor element.
It is intended for use directly within the medium to be measured and transmits data via a UART interface to compatible Rotronic devices. The series supports integration with HF5, HF8, PF4, HP22, HP23 transmitters, handheld units, or computers running HW4 v3.4 or higher software.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The probe operates within a dew point range of -70...+85 °C Td and a temperature range of -40...+85 °C. Measurement accuracy is specified as ±2 K Td (-50...-20 °C Td) @ 23 °C and ±3.5 K Td (-60...-50 °C Td) @ 23 °C, with a temperature accuracy of ±0.2 K.
Response times for the dew point sensor (T63 at -50 °C Td) are typically <10 min (wet to dry), <13 s (dry to wet), and <15 min with a filter installed. The device requires a power supply of 3.3...5 VDC, consumes less than 1.5 mA current, and features an IP65 enclosure rating.
Pressure resistance is rated at 16 bar for standard configurations and up to 100 bar when used with the LDP-MCS measurement chamber. Storage and transport conditions are defined as -40...+85 °C in non-condensing environments.
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable options for process connections, housing materials, and measurement chambers to accommodate specific installation requirements:
- Sensor Element: HYGROMER® LDP-1 with a sintered stainless steel filter (SPS15/50), 50 µm.
- Housing Materials: Stainless steel 1.4301 for the probe; measurement chambers available in POM or stainless steel 1.4301, with brass components for fixed valves and quick connectors.
- Process Connections: G 1/2" thread (standard), Compressed air fitting DN 7.2 (LDP-FC variants), or 2 x G 1/4" thread (LDP-MC variants).
- Measurement Chambers: Available options include LDP-FCPB1, LDP-FCSB1, LDP-MCP, and LDP-MCS. The LDP-MCS chamber supports the maximum pressure rating of 100 bar.
- Interface & Output: UART digital output with a maximum cable length of 5 m; compatible with USB interface AC3001 for computer connection.
Key Product Differences
The Series HC2-LDP is distinguished by its specific sensor technology and measurement chamber configurations. The probe head dimensions are 145 x 31 mm with a hexagonal nut size of 27 mm, requiring tightening torque of 25 Nm.
Variations exist primarily in the measurement chambers: POM-based units (LDP-FCPB1) and stainless steel units (LDP-MCS). The LDP-MC series features dual G 1/4" threads for flow-through applications with a defined air flow rate of 1 liter/min @ 8 bar. Approvals include CE / EMC compatibility 2004/108/EC, FDA / GAMP directives compatible status, and ATEX requirements.
