Supported Applications

The Omega DFG-RS3 is a universal digital indicator designed for displaying measurements from interchangeable Series RLC force sensors and RTQ torque sensors. The system supports handheld operation or mounting to fixtures and test stands for laboratory and industrial testing requirements.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The DFG-RS3 indicator features a high-speed 2000 Hz sampling rate and operates within an ambient temperature range of 4 to 38°C (40 to 100°F). The unit is rated for humidity up to 96% RH non-condensing. Measurement capabilities span force ranges from 0.25 to 10,000 lb and torque ranges from 10 oz-in to 100 lb-in.

Accuracy varies by the specific sensor series connected:

  • RLC01, RLC03: ±0.15% of full scale
  • RLC02: ±0.5% of full scale
  • RLC04: ±0.2% of full scale
  • RTQ50: ±0.35% of full scale

  • RLC01 Series: Tension/Compression load cells, capacities ±50 lbs to ±10,000 lbs (±0.15% accuracy).
  • RLC02 Series: Compression-only load cells, capacities 0 to 100 lbs through 0 to 10,000 lbs (±0.5% accuracy).
  • RLC03 Series: Low capacity tension/compression load cells, ±0.25 lbs to ±100 lbs (±0.15% accuracy).
  • RLC04 Series: Miniature tension/compression load cells, ±0.25 lbs to ±100 lbs (±0.2% accuracy).
  • RTQ50 Series: Reaction torque sensors, capacities ±10 oz-in through ±100 lb-in (±0.35% accuracy).

Indicator Features & Outputs

The DFG-RS3 indicator includes a large backlit graphics display with live load bargraph and set point markers. It provides USB data output configurable to 115,200 baud for individual data points via the 'DATA' key. The unit supports programmable setpoints with pass/fail indicators.

Power & Accessories

  • Powered by a rechargeable battery or AC adapter (included).
  • Included items: Carrying case, USB cable, resource CD, and certificate of conformance.
  • The DFG-RSA programmable adapter is available to calibrate most bridge-type force or torque sensors with 1 to 3 mV/V full scale output.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between the main indicator unit and various sensor configurations. The DFG-RS3 is the economical force/torque indicator for use with remote sensors, while the DFG-RSA serves as a user-configurable remote sensor adaptor.

Sensor selection determines measurement type (tension/compression vs. compression-only) and accuracy class. Calibration and configuration data are stored in the smart connector of each RLC or RTQ sensor, allowing true interchangeability between sensors without re-calibrating the indicator itself. All RLC and RTQ sensors include a NIST traceable calibration certificate.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Unclear on Website I was told that the meter and load cell were a kit, even after talking with your engineering. Other loads cells are $500 less! We were in a pinch, so we order both items separately. But $1500 for a load cell and meter seems excessive. Called customer support - was no help understanding, just kept stating "sold separately". It seems very odd that the meter and load cell are exactly the same price.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from In-accurate Information Contacted Omega prior to purchasing the indicator and asked if you could disconnect a load cell after applying pressure then reconnect to the same load cell with the same loads applied, would it still read current load? Initially told yes, made the purchase to find out that was untrue. Contacted Omega again and then they told me the load cell would start back at zero. So now instead of being able to connect and reconnect from one load cell to another you need to purchase one indicator per load cell to constantly monitor the loads in different areas. My application covers a large area and having fragile wires hanging everywhere is not feasible. The specific PN's I'm referencing are: DFG-RS3, DFG-RSA and LCWD-1K. Due to poor information provided prior to purchasing and the horrible customer service experience OMEGA gets a low rating.

Are size dimensions available for the sensors that are used in conjunction with the DFG-RS3 force/torque indicator. We have a handle that we wish to measure both the pull force to allow actuation and rotational torque for valve opening.

Yes, Dimensional drawing for all RLC and RTQ load cells and torque sensors for the DFG-RS3 and DFG-RS5 are contained in the RLC and RTQ users manual which is available for download from the MANUALS file on our website.

Can this be used to measure the force (in netwons) of pulling a load of freight on a warehouse floor using a pallet jack?

The DFG-RSA is a remote sensor adaptor. The main unit is the DFG-RS3. The main unit can certainly be used to measure pulling force, the setup just needs to be appropriate for the application. Does DFG-RS3 come with the Torque Sensors for 10 oz-in to 100 lb-in Ranges? If yes, could you kindly provide a picture of the sensor (did not find in the manual).
