Supported Applications
The Omega SM Series D-subminiature Connectors, Thermocouple Pins, and Sockets provide low-cost crimp-style connectivity for Type SM connectors. The series is designed for test labs, automotive testing, quality control stations, profile probes, and high-density applications.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The connector bodies operate within an ambient temperature range of -55 to 105°C (-67 to 221°F). The series supports crimp-style electrical connections. Connector bodies are sold in packages of 5 sets, and backshells are also packaged in quantities of 5.
Connector Configurations
The series offers Sub-D Type connector configurations with the following contact counts:
- 9-pin (Model SMTC-9MF)
- 15-pin (Model SMTC-15MF)
- 25-pin (Model SMTC-25MF)
- 37-pin (Model SMTC-37MF)
- 50-pin (Model SMTC-50MF)
Backshell Options
Available backshells include 45°/straight and 90°/straight orientations, as well as tie-open styles for specific pin counts. Model designations follow the pattern SM4-, SM9-, or SMT-.
Configuration Options
The series includes connector bodies, backshells, thermocouple pins and sockets, connecting hardware, and accessory tools. Thermocouple alloy options cover multiple ANSI types including J (Iron/Constantan), K (CHROMEGA/ALOMEGA), T (Copper/Constantan), E (CHROMEGA/Constantan), and N (OMEGA-P/OMEGA-N). Uncompensated pins and sockets are also available.
Thermocouple Alloy Pins and Sockets
Pins and sockets are offered for the following alloys:
- CHROMEGA (+) / ALOMEGA (-)
- Constantan (-)
- Copper (+)
- Iron* (+) (Gold-plated)
- OMEGA-P™ (+)
- OMEGA-N™ (-)
Contact Color Codes
The series utilizes specific contact color codes corresponding to ANSI wire colors:
- White: CHROMEL(+) (Yellow or Purple)
- Black: Iron(+) (White)
- Red: Copper(+) (Blue)
- Green: ALUMEL(-) (Red)
- Yellow: Constantan(-) (Red)
- None: Uncompensated
- Blue: OMEGA-P™ (+) (Orange)
- Orange: OMEGA-N™ (-) (Orange)
Accessory Tools and Hardware
The series supports the following tools for installation:
- SM-CTHD heavy-duty precision crimp tool with ratchet action
- SM-CTE economical crimp tool
- SM-EX versatile insertion/extraction tool
Connecting hardware includes the SMFR Female screwlock set and SMMR Male screw retainer set, both sold in packages of 5 sets.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the series are distinguished by pin count (9, 15, 25, 37, or 50), backshell orientation (45°/straight vs. 90°/straight), and tie-open configurations for cable management.
- SM4-: 45°/straight sub-D backshells
- SM9-: 90°/straight sub-D backshells
- SMT-: 90°/straight tie open sub-D backshells (available for 15, 25, 37, and 50-pin configurations)
Specific cable diameter limits apply to certain models: SMT-25S supports a maximum cable diameter of 8.51 mm (0.335"), while other tie-open variants support up to 11.68 mm (0.460"). Iron pins are gold-plated.
