Supported Applications

The SST OXY-FLEX Series consists of compact, cost-effective zirconia oxygen transmitters designed to measure percentage-level oxygen concentration in air or inert gas mixtures. The series is engineered for use in areas that are not easily accessible or within closed systems such as ventilation pipes, flues, and containers.

Documented applications include:

  • Oxygen monitoring in combustion processes
  • Excess air monitoring
  • Bakery ovens
  • Ventilation pipes, flues, and closed container systems

The transmitters are suitable for background gases including Air, N₂, CO₂, Ar, or combustion gas.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The OXY-FLEX Series utilizes zirconia measurement technology to determine oxygen concentration. The series offers two configurable measurement ranges: 0.1...25 % and 0.1...100 %. Accuracy is specified as < 0.5 % O₂ for the 0-25% range and < 1 % O₂ for the 0-100% range, with a repeatability of < 0.5 %.

Performance parameters include:

  • Response Time (T10-90): < 15 seconds
  • Ambient Temperature: -10...+85 °C (14...+185 °F)
  • Process/Sample Temperature: Up to +400 °C
  • Ingress Protection: IP66
  • Pressure Rating: Atmospheric; the 0-25% O₂ range supports operation up to 3 barg (43.5 psig) without damage, though calibration at operating pressure is required.

  • Warm Up Time: Approx. 10 minutes

The unit requires a supply voltage of 24 V DC, ±10 %, with an operating current <1A and start-up current <2A @ 24 V DC.

Configuration Options

The series is configurable across housing materials, probe mounting styles, insertion lengths, and output signals. The electronics are housed in a waterproof die-cast aluminum or stainless-steel enclosure with an attached oxygen sensor probe protected by a sintered cap.

  • Housing Material & Probe Mounting: Available as Aluminum (mounted to housing) or Stainless Steel (mounted to housing). Options also include mounting the probe on a shielded cable for both aluminum and stainless-steel housings.
  • Probe Dimensions: Ø12 mm diameter with insertion lengths of 220, 400, or 600 mm. Overall length varies by model configuration (e.g., XZR201/XZR211 include a cable).
  • Process Connection: Requires a 12 mm Swagelok® compression fitting or equivalent.
  • Electrical Output Signals: Configurable for 4...20 mA, 0...10 V DC, or RS232 communication via an M12, 8 Pin, A Coded connector.
  • Accessories: Standard configuration (no connection cable fitted) or with a 5m Cable including fittings supplied on the connector. Process connectors are available to adapt the 12mm tube to various stud types (NPT(M), ISO/BSP(T/P), N.B. tube).
  • Approvals: CE, UKCA, and ISO9001.

Key Product Differences

The OXY-FLEX Series is organized into model families based on housing material and probe mounting configuration. The XZR2xx series codes denote specific combinations:

  • XZR200 / XZR210: Models with the probe mounted directly to the aluminum (XZR200) or stainless-steel (XZR210) housing.
  • XZR201 / XZR211: Models where the probe is connected via a shielded cable, available in aluminum (XZR201) or stainless-steel (XXR211) housings. These configurations include an approximate 1290 mm ± 50 mm cable length.

Note: The XZR210 and XZR211 stainless-steel housing models cannot be mounted directly to a flat surface; the customer must use a suitable bracket of their own design. Additionally, prolonged operation below 0.1 % O₂ can damage the sensing element.
