Supported Applications

The Omega ZW-REC is a long-range wireless receiver designed for web-based monitoring of OMEGA's IEEE 802.15.4, 2.4 GHz compatible wireless transmitters. It features a built-in web server with SSL encryption and supports up to 128 end devices depending on the transmitter series. The unit connects directly to an Ethernet network and displays data via a standard web browser without requiring special software.

Documented measurement types supported by the receiver include:

  • Temperature
  • Humidity
  • Pressure (Barometric)
  • Thermocouple inputs
  • RTD inputs
  • Infrared measurements

The ZW-REC is compatible with the OMEGA Dashboard software and supports wireless firmware updates for compatible sensors.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The receiver operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 to 40°C (32 to 104°F). Environmental specifications list a broader operating envelope of 0 to 70°C (32 to 158°F) at up to 90% RH non-condensing. Storage conditions are rated for the same environmental limits.

Wireless communication performance is defined by IEEE 802.15.4, DSSS standards operating in the 2.4 GHz band (2400 to 2483.5 MHz) across 16 channels using a star topology network structure. Key wireless parameters include:

  • Transmit Power: 9.5dBm
  • Receiver Sensitivity: -96dBm
  • Range: Up to 1000 m (3280') without obstructions or interference.

The device draws a maximum input power of 0.8 W and supports encryption up to 2048 bit.

Configuration Options

The ZW-REC series is offered as a single model number (ZW-REC) with configurable network settings for static or DHCP IP addresses. The unit includes physical ports for Ethernet connectivity via RJ45, 10/100 Base-T and USB connectivity via Micro-USB 2.0 Type B.

Power is supplied by an input voltage of 5 to 30 Vdc. A safety qualified AC power adaptor is included with a nominal output of 9 Vdc @ 0.5 A, accepting an input of 100 to 240 Vdc at 50/60 Hz.

Device capacity varies by the compatible wireless transmitter series:

  • ZW Series: Up to 128 end devices
  • zSeries: Up to 32 end devices
  • UW Series: Up to 127 end devices (compatible with UW Series transmitters; does not include “-PH” and “-PC” models)

The unit features LEDs for power, diagnostics, network/link status, and activity. User access is managed via Client and Administrator roles.

Key Product Differences

The bundle identifies the ZW-REC as a long-range wireless receiver distinct from transmitter models such as the ZW-ED (long range), zSeries compact transmitters (zED-TP2-LCD-H2, zED-TC-LCD-H2), and weather-resistant UW Series transmitters (UWTC-2-NEMA, UWRTD-2-NEMA). The receiver itself is a single configuration designed to aggregate data from these various transmitter families.

Agency approvals for the ZW-REC include CE, RoHS, ECCN 5A992, EMC 2014/30/EU, LVD 2014/35/EU, and RED 2014/53/EU.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nothing but problems with these devices I purchaced several of these along with a bunch of the ZW-ED devices. Getting the ZW-ED device to communicate with the ZW-REC device seems to be a near impossibility. When I have talked to the people over at Omegas data acquisition department, I was told that they "no longer support the onboard dashboard" and that I need to use the "Omega Enterprise Dashboard". When I tried to install that software the installer tried to update my internet settings (something I cannot do due to company policy). The ZW-ED device "connects" to the ZW-REC as in the blue LED indicator blinks 5 times and shuts off indicating a connection per the manual, but doesnt actually connect. I've had devices dead on arrival (it happens I know) and I've had to update firmware right out of the box. If you want to use these, be ready to put in more time into getting the devices to run than they will actually be running. Customer support = frequent disconnects (every time i've tried to talk with them) and restarting the troubleshooting process every time you try to reconnect. I'm so tired of explaining the same problem and answering the same questions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good things come in small packages I was looking for some lab quality sensors with access to the internet for a client and come across this device by Omega and was presently surprised at the simplicity of the operation and setup. With built in webserver the client is extremely happy and that goes double for me!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's OK with Limitations This device works ok within ~500 ft. You are risking yourself if you do anything more. It is NOT nema 4X so please cover it. Pros: - Ethernet Cable, detects transmitter XW easily, not to big. Cons: - Add $395 for OEG just to record and scale your signal to psi, gpm, ft/hr, etc. - Not good for environment agents like water, dust, etc. It isn't covered at all. - Need ~30 min to setup and better be concentrated for it. 3 softwares to setup and record your transmission. - Needs outside power source. - ~500 ft, one signal bar (no obstructions). We couldn't find the perfect position for the advertised 1 mile.

Can this device be configured as a signal repeater to connect two or more receivers and extend the system's range? If not, do you have a device that can work with the ZW-REC to enhance its range?

Asked by: FF Engineer
Thank you for your question. The ZW-REC cannot be used as a repeater, and we do not have any other device that can do so.

Unable to make the charting graph work. Have a ZW receiver along with ZW transmitters. Temperature and humidity values are shown on the End Device Readings page. On the Charting page, it does NOT allow me to select temperature and humidity buttons.

Hello, thank you for your question. In the case of troubleshooting for specific cases, it would be best if you send an email to our technical support team for that series at DAS@OMEGA.COM. Please include screenshots and as much details as possible.
