Supported Applications
The Omega LVCN, LVCF, LVCR, and LVCP series are conductivity level switches designed to control the point level of conductive liquids in tanks and pipes. These instruments detect variations in electrical resistance between a reference electrode and one or more level-control electrodes. The series supports applications requiring up to 5 different points of level control, including alarm point detection and on/off pump valve control.
Probes are suitable for use with all conductive mediums, including aggressive or sticky media when rods are coated. An electrically conductive tank wall may serve as the reference electrode; if the vessel is constructed from plastic, concrete, or other non-conductive materials, an additional electrode (such as model CLE-P) is required.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates within a process temperature range of -10 to 120°C (14 to 248°F). Ambient operating temperatures are rated from -10 to 60°C (14 to 140°F) for the LVCN-200 Series controllers. The maximum pressure rating is 290 psi (20 bar).
Electrical sensitivity is adjustable via potentiometer across a range of 0.5 to 50 kΩ. Power requirements include 24 Vdc ±10% or 115/230 Vac (50/60 Hz). Current consumption for the LVCN-201 and LVCN-202 controllers is a maximum of 2 VA, while the LVCN-203 and LVCN-204 models consume up to 3 VA.
Output configurations include SPDT relays rated at 5 A @ 250 Vac for single-level or differential control, and dual SPDT relays (5 A @ 250 Vac) for independent two-level control. Time delay options are adjustable from 0.1 to 5 seconds on LVCN-201/202 models and fixed at 1 second on LVCN-203/204 models.
Configuration Options
The series offers extensive configuration options across probe types, process connections, enclosures, and rod lengths to accommodate diverse installation requirements.
- Probe Types: LVCF models feature fixed rigid rods; LVCR models utilize removable rigid rods for field replacement or adjustment; LVCP models employ pendular electrodes attached via cable. Configurations support 1 to 5 detection points per unit.
- Rod and Cable Dimensions: Fixed and removable rod lengths range from 100 mm to 2 m (3.9" to 6.5"). Pendular electrode cables are available in lengths from 500 mm to 20 m (19.7" to 65.6"). Rods can be shortened in the field, and LVCR units offer varied rod lengths for custom applications.
- Process Connections: Options include threaded connections from ½ NPT or BSP up to 1½ NPT or BSP (depending on electrode count), as well as sanitary fittings (1.5" Tri-Grip™) and flanges (2", ANSI, 316 SS).
- Enclosures: Probes are housed in glass-filled nylon or die-cast aluminum with NEMA 4 (IP65) protection. LVCN-200 Series controllers feature ABS enclosures rated IP40 and mount via DIN rail or screws.
- Materials & Coatings: Wetted parts are constructed from 316 SS, isolated with Teflon joggles. Rods can be coated with ECTFE/ETFE for use in aggressive environments.
Key Product Differences
The series is divided into probe families and controller models based on electrode configuration and control logic:
- LVCN-201/LVCN-202 Controllers: Designed to control the differential of minimum and maximum levels. These units provide a single SPDT relay output with an adjustable time delay (0.1 to 5 sec).
- LVCN-203/LVCN-204 Controllers: Configured for the control of two independent levels, featuring dual SPDT relays and a fixed 1-second time delay.
- LvCF Series (Fixed Rods): Models such as LVCF-111-12-ETFE include one rod with specific process connections and optional ECTFE/ETFE coating. The model number structure allows selection of the number of rods, connection type, enclosure material, and length.
- LvCR Series (Removable Rods): Compatible only with LVCN-200 Series controllers. These allow for replacement rods to be ordered separately or shortened in the field.
- LvCP Series (Pendular Electrodes): Utilize cables of varying lengths rather than rigid stems, suitable for applications where flexible insertion is required. Cables may also be shortened by the user.

Can these be used in #2 Diesel Fuel?
Thank you for your inquiry about the capacitance switch. Ideally, it is best for conductive liquids and diesel oil or fuel have a very low dielectric or conductivity.
