Supported Applications
The Dwyer Model MM-2 is a compact True RMS digital multimeter designed for general electrical testing and troubleshooting. It performs DC and AC TRMS voltage, DC and AC TRMS current, resistance, continuity, frequency, capacitance, diode test, LED test, transistor hFE, and temperature measurements.
The instrument supports Measurement Category IV (CAT IV) 600 V for low-voltage installation sources such as electricity meters and over-current protection devices. It also meets CAT III 1000 V requirements for building installations including distribution boards, circuit breakers, and wiring. The meter is suitable for circuits directly connected to a low-voltage installation (CAT II) and specially protected internal MAINS-derived circuits not directly connected to mains (CAT I).
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Model MM-2 features an autoranging 4000 count plus decimal point backlit LCD display with a bar graph. The sampling rate is specified as 2.5 x per s.
- Voltage: DC Voltage ranges from 0.1 mV to 1000 V (accuracy: 0.5% + 2 digit); AC Voltage ranges from 0.1 mV to 750 V (accuracy: 1.3% + 5 digit).
- Current: DC Current and AC Current range from 0.1 uA to 10 A with accuracies of 1.0% + 3 digit for DC and 1.5% + 5 digit for AC.
- Resistance & Capacitance: Resistance ranges include 400, 4K, 40K, 400K, 4M, and 40M Ω (accuracy: ±(1.0% + 2 digit)). Capacitance covers 4n to 40mF steps with an accuracy of ±(1% + 5 digit).
- Frequency & Temperature: Frequency measurement spans 1 Hz to 40 MHz. The included thermistor supports temperature measurements from -40 to 1382°F (-40 to 800°C).
The unit is powered by a user-replaceable 9 V alkaline battery (included). It features overload protection rated at 1000 Vrms and includes an audible buzzer for continuity testing.
Configuration Options
The Model MM-2 series utilizes a rugged, high impact case that is double injected. The rotary selector switch provides access to DCV, ACV, Ω/Continuity (→), Capacitance (||), Hz, μADC, μAAC, DCA, and ACA positions.
- Display & Controls: 4-digit backlit LCD with HOLD, PK/REL, MX/MN, R/SEL, Backlight, and OFF functions. The display indicates value, mode, and low battery status.
- Terminals: Test leads connect to COM, A, and VΩ-μA terminals.
- Included Accessories: Black and red test leads, 9V battery, thermistor with input adapter, and a carrying case with belt loop.
The instrument is designed for pollution degree 2 environments. Safety warnings indicate the meter should not be used in humid or wet places, rooms with explosive gas, combustible gas, steam, or excessive dust. It is noted as not suitable for non-sine wave voltage and current measurements.
