Supported Applications
The Omega PX831 series is a compact, intrinsically safe pressure transducer built for continuous measurement of process pressure in demanding industrial environments. Its 316L stainless steel construction and sealed design let it work with liquid, gas, or vapor media, and its small size and light weight remove the need for complicated mounting hardware, reducing installation time.
Because the PX831 carries FM and CSA approvals for explosion-proof use, it is suited to hazardous locations, including Class I, Division 1, Groups B, C and D; Class II, Groups E, F and G; and Class III hazardous locations, in a NEMA Type 4 enclosure. This makes it appropriate for oil and gas, chemical processing, and other plants where a rugged, approved transmitter is required.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The PX831 is a fixed-range transmitter with an accuracy of ±0.3% of span at 25 °C, which includes linearity, hysteresis, and repeatability. It provides a 4 to 20 mA, 2-wire output and operates on a supply of 12 to 30 Vdc, with a load resistance of 900 Ω at 30 Vdc.
Pressure ranges span gage models from 0 to 15 psig through 0 to 5000 psig, absolute models from 0 to 15 psia to 0 to 100 psia, and vacuum and compound models such as 0 to 30 inHg vacuum and 30 inHg vacuum to 60 psig. In metric terms the full-scale ranges cover 1.0, 2.0, 7.0, 20, 70, 200, and 350 bar.
- Operating ambient temperature: -40 °F to 140 °F (-40 °C to 60 °C).
- Process interface temperature: -40 °F to 212 °F (-40 °C to 100 °C).
- Overpressure: 300% Span.
- Vibration effect: ±0.1% for 3g to 200 Hz.
- Humidity: up to 100% RH.
- Wetted parts: 316L stainless steel; fill fluid Silicone (DC200).
Configuration Options
All PX831 models share the same 316L stainless steel construction, 4 to 20 mA output, intrinsically safe approvals, and ±0.3% of span accuracy. What distinguishes one model from another is the pressure range and the reference type it is calibrated for.
Reference Type
Gage models measure pressure relative to ambient, absolute models measure relative to a sealed reference, and vacuum and compound models cover negative and combined vacuum-to-pressure spans, so the same transmitter family can be applied to positive, absolute, or vacuum measurement.
Pressure Range and Size
The lower gage and absolute ranges from 15 to 300 psig share one body length, measuring 1.75 in (44.5 mm) in diameter and 4.05 in (103.0 mm) long, while the high-pressure ranges up to 5000 psig use a slightly shorter body. A 0.6 m (24") cable exits a conduit connection for field wiring.
Key Product Differences
A PX831 catalog number combines the PX831 base with a range code and a reference and output suffix, so the range and measurement type are selected at ordering. The example PX831-100GI denotes a gage unit configured for the 0 to 100 psig range.
Available configurations in this series include:
- PX831-015GI — gage, 0 to 15 psig.
- PX831-100GI — gage, 0 to 100 psig.
- PX831-30VACI — vacuum, 0 to 30 inHg vacuum.
