Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series L6 Flotect® is an explosion-proof liquid level switch designed for hazardous environments. The series operates automatically to indicate tank levels and supports direct pump control, automatic tank dump operations, valve control, and level alarms. Documented applications include sumps, scrubber systems, hydro-pneumatic tanks, boilers, and water/wastewater treatment processes.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Series L6 is sensitive to liquid level changes of less than 1/2" (12 mm). Standard process temperature ranges from -4 to 220°F (-20 to 105°C), with an MT high-temperature option available up to 400°F (205°C); the MT option is not UL, CSA, ATEX, IECEx, or KC listed. For units configured for hazardous locations under ATEX compliant AT, IECEx IEC, and KC options, the ambient temperature range is -4 to 167°F (-20 to 75°C) with a process temperature of -4 to 220°F (-20 to 105°C).
Pressure ratings vary by model configuration as defined in the maximum pressure chart:
- Cylindrical SS float: 200 psig (13.8 kg/cm²)
- Polypropylene float: 250 to 2000 psig (17.2 to 138 kg/cm²) depending on model
- Round SS float: 250 to 350 psig (17.2 to 24.1 kg/cm²)
The enclosure is weatherproof and explosion-proof, listed with UL and CSA for Class I, Groups A, B, C, and D; Class II, Groups E, F, and G (Group A on stainless steel body models only). Approvals include Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX) Compliant CE 2813 II 2 G Ex db IIC T6 Gb Process Temps ≤75°C; EU-Type Certificate No.: KEMA 04ATEX2128; ATEX Standards EN 60079-0: 2012 + A11: 2013 and EN60079-1: 2014. IECEx Certified for Ex db IIC T6 Gb Process Temps 75°C with Certificate of Conformity IECEx DEK II.0039; Standards IEC 60079-00: 2011 and IEC 60079-1: 2014. Configuration Options
The series offers configurable construction, body materials, switch types, process connections, float configurations, and options to meet specific installation requirements. The model number guide follows the format: L6 - <CONSTRUCTION> - <BODY> - <SWITCH TYPE> - <PROCESS CONNECTION> - <FLOAT TYPE AND INSTALLATION> - <OPTIONS>.

- Switch Type: SPDT snap switch standard, DPDT snap switch optional. Electrical ratings include UL models at 5 A @ 125/250 VAC (V~); CSA, ATEX and IECEx models at 5 A @ 125/250 VAC (V~) or 5 A res., 3 A ind. @ 30 VDC (V =). The MV option supports .1 A @ 125 VAC (V~).

- Wetted Materials: Float: Solid polypropylene or 304 SS; Lower body: Brass or 303 SS; Magnet: Ceramic; External float chamber (Tee): Matches lower body choice of brass or 303 SS; Lever arm, spring, pin, etc.: 301 SS.
- Electrical Connections: UL models feature 18 AWG, 18" (460 mm) long leads. ATEX/CSA/IECEx models utilize a terminal block.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the Series L6 differ primarily by body material and float configuration, which dictate pressure ratings and specific hazardous location approvals. Brass bodies are available with polypropylene or stainless steel floats; 303 SS bodies support various stainless steel float options including cylindrical and spherical configurations.
- Float Geometry: Models offer either a spherical float (polypropylene or 304 SS) or a cylindrical 304 SS float. Spherical polypropylene floats are available with side wall mounting or external chambers in brass or stainless steel.
- Housing and Mounting: The series supports horizontal mounting with the index arrow pointing down. Models may include an external float chamber (tee) matching the lower body material, increasing overall dimensions to 8-9/16" [217.49] x 3-5/64" [78.18].
- Approvals and Options: Units without the 'AT' suffix are not Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX) compliant. BSP options are not compatible with the KC option. The MT high-temperature option is available only on models with SS floats and does not carry UL, CSA, ATEX, IECEx, or KC listings.

Good value and exactly what was needed
This liquid level switch is a good value and did exactly what we needed for our application.
Although its a bit pricy the switch should last for many years and is performing exactly as
described. I will be considering Dwyer again for my needs in the future.
