Clean Water Circulation Heater
Models In Stock
- Standard Element Sheath Materials
- Incoloy® 800 — A Nickel (30 to 35%), Chromium (19 to 23%), Iron alloy. The high nickel content of this alloy contributes to its resistance to scaling and corrosion. Used in air heating (also see Incoloy® 840) and immersion heating of potable water and other liquids that are not corrosive to an Incoloy® 800 sheath.
- Low Carbon Steel — Applications include fluid heat transfer media, tar, high to low viscosity petroleum oils, asphalt, wax, molten salt, and other solutions not corrosive to a steel sheath.
- 316 Stainless Steel — A Chromium (16 to 18%), Nickel (11 to 14%), Iron Alloy with Molybdenum (2 to 3%) added to improve corrosion resistance in certain environments, especially those that would tend to cause pitting due to the presence of chlorides. Applications include deionized water.

Supported Applications
The Omega CHF Series Clean Water Circulation Heater consists of self-contained heating units designed for optimum operating efficiency and performance. These circulation heaters provide trouble-free service with application flexibility, transferring heat generated by the elements immediately to the medium being processed with minimal losses.
Documented typical applications include:
- Clean water
- Potable water
- Deionized water
- Fuel Oils (Bunker C and Number 6)
- Air heating
- Food industry sterilizing solutions
- Organic and inorganic chemicals
Operating Conditions & Performance
The CHF Series supports process temperatures up to 399°C (750°F) for SA53B or SA106B steel vessels, with insulation rated to the same limit. The series accommodates a broad range of electrical configurations including 120V, 240V-1Ph, 240V-3Ph, 480V-1Ph, and 480V-3Ph.
Performance specifications vary by nominal pipe size and watt density. The series offers models configured for:
- Clean Water applications: Operating at a typical watt density of 60 watts/in² (9.3 watts/cm²).
- Fuel Oil applications: Operating at a typical watt density of 8 watts/in² (1.3 watts/cm²) for Bunker C and Number 6 oils.
Standard flanges are rated for 150 lbs with raised face connections. Optional stainless steel flanges or 300 lb ratings are available. Process connections utilize NPT pipe threads for units ranging from 76 to 203 mm (3 to 8") and flanged connections for 254 mm (10") and larger units.
Configuration Options
The CHF Series is configurable across multiple dimensions including nominal pipe size, voltage, phase, number of branch circuits, sheath materials, and enclosure ratings. The model number structure follows the format: Nominal Pipe Size - Voltage - Phase - Number of Branch Circuits (e.g., CHF01859 for 1¼ NPT, 120V, 1-phase, 1 circuit).
Housing and Enclosure Options:
- Standard: General purpose terminal housing (NEMA 1) with an outer stainless steel sheet metal jacket.
- Optional: Moisture proof housings (NEMA 4), explosion resistant housings (NEMA 7), or combined moisture/explosion resistant housings (NEMA 4/7).
- Optional stainless steel outer jacket with a weather-tight seal is available to protect insulation from the environment.
Sheath and Wetted Materials:
- Incoloy® 800, Incoloy® 840, Incoloy® 825
- 316 Stainless Steel, 304 Stainless Steel, 321 Stainless Steel
- Copper and Low Carbon Steel
- Vessel material: SA53B or SA106B steel (standard); stainless steel vessel available as an option.
Control and Protection Options:
- Solid state temperature controllers and jacket thermostats
- Double-pole non-indicating bulb and capillary type thermostat
- Thermocouple for over-temperature protection
- Flow Control Baffles
- Additional insulation or high temperature ceramic fiber insulation
- Optional Terminal Housing Standoff Construction
Safety and Wiring Notes:
- Branch circuit wiring for flange heater elements is configured with a maximum current of 48 Amps per branch.
- A thermostat is not a fail-safe device; an approved high temperature limit control and/or pressure limit control must be used for safe operation.
- The capillary tube must never touch the thermostat contacts to prevent electrical shorts.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the CHF Series are distinguished by nominal pipe size, power rating (KW), and voltage/phase configuration. The series spans from 1¼ NPT up to 6"—150 lb connections.
- Size Range: Models range from 1¼ NPT through 6" flanged units. Dimensional drawings vary by model (e.g., Drawing 2, Drawing 3) with dimensions provided in inches and mm.
- Power Ratings: Available power ratings include specific KW values such as 3 kW, 4.1 kW, 5.1 kW, up to 60 kW depending on the pipe size and configuration.
- Voltage/Phase Configurations: Specific model numbers correspond to distinct voltage and phase combinations (e.g., CHF01859 for 120V; CHF01860 through CHF01879 cover various 240V-3Ph, 480V-1Ph, and 480V-3Ph configurations).
- Weight: Approximate weight varies by model from 6 kg (14 lb) to 246 kg (542 lb).
Show Ratings & Reviews
What is the maximum working pressure for this heater (CHF01859)? would it be possible to use with water at 120 PSI?
Please send your question to heaters@omega.com so an Applications Engineer can work with the Heater design group to see what the maximum pressure rating is on the Circulation Heater.

What is the maximum GPM for this heater at a 20 degree delta? We need to heat our cooling water on injection molding machines so the barrel doesn't sweat. We have 55 degree cooling water with around 8 GPM on the supply piping to the machine.
The calculation can be quite involved so please send your request to heaters@omega.com so all the specifics can be reviewed and the best recommendations can be made.

What is the increase in temperature of air passing through this at 200 CFM at approximately 75 degree Fahrenheit?
Hi Brett,
The CHF01920 heater is for water applications. For air heating applications please see our GCHI series or search for p/n: GCHI-03-006P-E1/240
The formula to calculate power for heating air is SCFM x ΔT / 3 ΔT = temperature rise in deg F
