Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series UFM2 Compact Ultrasonic Flowmeters are clamp-on instruments designed for flow rate and velocity measurement in pipes. The series implements the transit-time difference method to measure clean water with less than 3% by volume of particulate content.
Documented applications include:
- Hot water metering and flow measurement
- Chilled water metering and flow measurement
- Potable water metering and flow measurement
- Process water metering and flow measurement
- Ultra-pure water metering and flow measurement
The UFM2 is suitable for use on steel, copper, or plastic pipes with no internal lining.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Series UFM2 operates within a process temperature range of 32 to 185°F (0 to 85°C) and an ambient temperature range of 32 to 122°F (0 to 50°C). The instrument measures flow velocities from 0.33 to 32.8 ft/s (0.1 to 10 m/s).
Performance specifications include:
- Accuracy: ±3% of flow reading for >0.98 ft/s (>0.3 m/s)
- Repeatability: ±0.15% of measured value
- Response Time: <1 s
- Enclosure Rating: IP54
- Housing Material: Plastic polycarbonate
The unit is powered by an external 12-24 VDC/VAC supply with a maximum power consumption of 7 W. The device weighs 2.9 lb (1.315 kg).
Configuration Options
The Series UFM2 supports pipe outside diameters from 3/4 to 7" (25 to 180 mm), with applicable wall thicknesses ranging from 0.02 to 0.39" (0.5 to 10 mm). Pipe size applicability is dependent on the specific pipe material and internal diameter.
Configurable outputs include:
- Analog Output: One opto-isolated 4-20 mA signal with a load resistance of 620 Ω max. Error current is indicated at 3.5 mA.
- Pulse Output: One opto-isolated MOSFET relay, rated for 500 mA max, 166 pps max, and 200 Hz max.
The electronics module features a backlit display measuring 3.27" H x 0.74" W (83.1 mm x 18.8 mm) with a capacity of 2 lines by 16 characters. Electrical connections are made via female SMB coaxial connectors using a supplied 16.4' (5 m) cable.
Available options include:
- -NISTCAL-FU: NIST traceable calibration certificate for ultrasonic flowmeters
Key Product Differences
The Series UFM2 is ordered using a model number guide format: UFM2 - <OUTPUT TYPE> - <PIPE SIZE> - <OPTIONS>. Specific pipe size codes define the applicable range:
- -4: 3/4 to 4" (25 to 115 mm)
- -6: 5 to 7" (125 to 180 mm)
The output type code -1 designates units with both pulse and 4-20 mA outputs. The series holds CE agency approval.
