Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series BYS and SYS Brass or Stainless Steel Y-Strainers are designed for industrial applications requiring filtration to prevent damage to downstream equipment. The stainless steel strainer provides excellent filtration to help protect valves, meters, and other components from rust and dirt while maintaining high flow characteristics.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates within a process temperature range of -10 to 250°F (-23 to 121°C). Service compatibility includes gases, steam, and liquids compatible with the specified wetted materials. End connections are Female NPT.
Configuration Options
The series is available in two primary material configurations: BYS (Brass) and SYS (Stainless Steel), covering pipe sizes from 1/4" to 2". Maximum pressure ratings vary by model and size as documented below.
Pressure Ratings by Model
- BYS Series: Models BYS-00 through BYS-03 (sizes 1/4" to 3/4") are rated for 400 psi (27.6 bar). Models BYS-04 through BYS-07 (sizes 1" to 2") are rated for 300 psi (20.7 bar).
- SYS Series: All models from SYS-00 to SYS-07 (sizes 1/4" to 2") are rated for 800 psi (55.2 bar).
Wetted Materials
- BYS: Valve body: Cast brass; Cap and plug: Brass; Screen: SS; Seal: PTFE.
- SYS: Valve body and cap: Cast 316 SS (CF8M); Plug and screen: 316 SS; Seal: PTFE.
Key Product Differences
The primary distinction between the two series is material composition and pressure capability. The BYS models utilize a cast brass body with brass cap and plug, while SYS models feature a Cast 316 SS (CF8M) valve body and cap with 316 SS plugs and screens. Both configurations use PTFE seals.
Physical dimensions differ between the two series for each NPT size. For example, at 1/4" NPT, BYS dimension A is 1-31/32 [50.04] in while SYS dimension A is 2-33/64 [64.00] in. Dimension B also varies by series and size.
