Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series DBVL and SWBV are low lead brass ball valves designed for commercial or industrial use where lead content is regulated. These economical hand lever ball valves serve gases and liquids compatible with the wetted materials, featuring a full port design to maximize flow coefficient while retaining minimal pressure drop.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates within a process temperature range of -40° to 365°F (-40° to 185°C). Pressure limits vary by model and size:

  • DBVL (1/4" to 2"): -29" Hg to 600 psi (-736 mm Hg to 41 bar) WOG.
  • DBVL (2-1/2" to 3"): -29" Hg to 250 psi (-736 mm Hg to 17 bar) WOG.
  • SWBV (2-1/2" to 3"): -29" Hg to 400 psi (-736 mm Hg to 27 psi) WOG.

A blowout-proof stem provides safety in the event of overpressure. The valves meet the technical requirements of EU Directive 2011/65/EU (RoHS II). A California Proposition 65 warning notes that this product can expose users to chemicals including Lead.

Configuration Options

The series is available in two primary configurations distinguished by end connections and size ranges:

  • DBVL Series: Features 1/4" to 3" female NPT end connections. Available sizes include 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1-1/4", 1-1/2", 2", 2-1/2", and 3".
  • SWBV Series: Features 1/4" to 3" sweat connections. Available sizes include 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1-1/4", 1-1/2", 2", 2-1/2", and 3".

Wetted materials include a body, body cap, and stem constructed of low lead brass. Seats and packing are made of PTFE for long-lasting service. The ball material varies by series and size:

  • DBVL Ball: 1/4" to 1": Chrome plated brass; 1-1/4" to 3": SS.
  • SWBV Ball: SS across all sizes.

Other materials include a body gland and stem nut of brass, handle and handle nut of steel, and a rubber handle cover. Model numbers follow the format DBVL-<SIZE> or SWBV-<SIZE>, where size codes correspond to pipe dimensions (e.g., -00 for 1/4", -02 for 1/2").

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between the two series is the end connection type: DBVL models utilize female NPT threads, while SWBV models use sweat connections. Additionally, ball material composition differs; smaller DBVL valves (up to 1") employ chrome-plated brass balls, whereas larger DBVL sizes and all SWBV sizes utilize stainless steel (SS) balls.
