Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series 400 Air Velocity Meter is a dual-purpose instrument designed for measuring air velocity and static pressure. Documented applications include balancing air conditioning systems, testing fan and blower discharge and inlet pressures, measuring furnace draft, and determining air filter pressure drop.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates with process temperatures up to 150°F (65°C) and is rated for total pressures to 100 psig (6.89 bar). Measurement capabilities cover a velocity range of 400 to 12,600 FPM and pressure ranges including 0 to 10 inch w.c., depending on the specific model configuration.

Accuracy specifications vary by application environment:

  • Laboratory applications: ±2% accuracy (requires extreme care, duct diameter of 4" or greater, and smooth straight duct sections).
  • Field tests: ±5% accuracy.

The instrument uses Dwyer gage fluid only; other fluids, solvents, or cleaning agents may damage the gauge. Cleaning is restricted to mild soap and water.

Configuration Options

The Series 400 offers configurable options based on kit contents and scale requirements. The series supports combination inclined/vertical scales with specific minor divisions:

  • Inclined Scale: .01 inch w.c., range 0 to 1.0.
  • Vertical Scale: .10 inch w.c., range 1-10.

Kits include a manometer, Pitot tube (e.g., 18 in length for the 400-10 model), necessary tubing and connectors, red gage fluid, a slide chart, and a carrying case. The complete kit weighs only 13-1/4 lb with equipment.

Model numbering follows the format 400-<MODEL>-<KIT/GAGE>, such as 400-10-Kit or 400-10-Gage. The series includes options for extra long steel cases to accommodate longer Pitot tubes, available by contacting the factory.

Key Product Differences

Variants within the Series 400 differ primarily in kit contents and scale ranges:

  • Kits vs. Gages: Models ending in "-KIT" include a Pitot tube, tubing, connectors, fluid, slide chart, and carrying case. Models ending in "-GAGE" (e.g., 400-10-Gage) contain only the manometer.
  • Pitot Tube Length: The 400-10 model includes an 18-inch Pitot tube; other models may vary or exclude the probe entirely in gage-only configurations.
