Supported Applications
The Omega DP9800 Series is an 8-channel benchtop digital thermometer and data logger designed for thermocouple or Pt100 RTD sensors. The series provides accurate, versatile temperature measurements with scanning and logging capabilities via a USB PC interface. It functions as both a stand-alone indicator/logger featuring a backlit LCD display and a connected instrument for remote control, measurement, logging, and calibration using included software.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The DP9800 Series supports thermocouple types J, K, T, E, N, R, S, and B, as well as Pt100 RTDs to IEC751 (3-Wire). Measurement ranges vary by sensor type: Type J (-200 to 750°C / -328 to 1382°F), Type K (-200 to 1200°C / -328 to 2192°F), Type T (-200 to 350°C / -328 to 662°F), Type E (-200 to 900°C / -328 to 1652°F), Type N (0 to 1300°C / 32 to 2372°F), Types R and S (0 to 1760°C / 32 to 3200°F), Type B (300 to 1800°C / 572 to 3272°F), and Pt100 (-200 to 850°C / -328 to 1562°F).
Accuracy specifications are defined as follows:
- Thermocouples J, K, T, E, and N: Better than ±0.1°C ±0.1% of range zero to span; ±0.15% of range -100 to -200°C (J, K, T, and E).
- Thermocouples R, S, and B: Better than ±0.1°C ±0.15% of range.
- Pt100 Range: Better than ±0.05°C ±0.1% of range.
The instrument features automatic reference junction compensation and incorporates a built-in self-calibration facility that auto-calibrates on every A/D cycle. Display resolution is 0.1°C for thermocouple ranges and 0.01°C for Pt100 ranges; software provides 0.01°C resolution across supported inputs. Linearization accuracy is ±0.05°C, with zero drift of ±0.01% of span per °C and span drift of ±0.01% of span per °C.
Operating ambient temperature ranges from 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F), while storage temperature is rated -20 to 70°C (-4 to 158°F). A critical operational constraint noted in the specifications is that all inputs are non-isolated and thermocouples must be ungrounded style.
Configuration Options
The series offers two primary configurations based on sensor input type:
- DP9800-TC: 8-channel thermocouple digital thermometer/data logger with USB interface and mini connectors for input terminations.
- DP9800-RTD: 8-channel RTD digital thermometer/data logger with USB interface and terminal blocks for Pt100 inputs.
The unit includes a front panel key for channel number or auto-scan selection, while PC software handles all other functions. The logging interval is configurable from 5 seconds to 1 hour. Power is supplied via a universal mains adaptor (supplied) providing 6 Vdc (5.5 to 9.0V), compatible with 120 to 250V, 50/60 Hz mains.
Options and accessories include the power adaptor, USB cable, software, and an operator's manual on CD. The series carries CE and RoHS approvals. An optional OCW-3 OMEGACARE™ extends the standard 2-year warranty to a total of 5 years.
Key Product Differences
The DP9800 Series distinguishes between thermocouple (DP9800-TC) and RTD (DP9800-RTD) models. The TC model utilizes mini connectors for eight thermocouple inputs, whereas the RTD model uses terminal blocks configured for Pt100 sensors to IEC751 standards. Both variants share identical physical dimensions of 214 mm length x 143 mm width x 77.83 mm height (8.42 in x 5.62 in x 3.06 in) and the same USB PC interface for data logging and calibration.

DP9800-TC: works but keep this in mind!
1. It only shows two decimal digits when connected to PC, on PC screen. On the stand alone display it shows only one decimal digit.
2. Installing control panel on PC was not easy. I had to call technical support; even they had to dig up for a day to find me the right software driver and then it worked.

Is it possible to use wireless thermo-couple assembly with this logger? If not, what are my options to have a setup with wireless temperature sensors? I need is for recodring during product development and testing. Thank you in advance for help.. regards
Thank you for your request. Unfortunately we do no longer have wireless options for thermocouples.
Feel free to check out possible alternate process & measurement devices at www.omega.com

Do you have to use a PC each time to set the TC type? I would like to be able to set it once (or set it without PC) and then use the devices multiple times with the same TC type (with power cycles)...is that possible?
Thank you for your inquiry. The particular thermocouple type must be selected for each channel via the PC software. You can use a different thermocouple type for each channel if you choose to.
