Supported Applications

The OS561 is an economical, handheld non-contact infrared thermometer for industrial and general-purpose surface temperature measurement. A built-in circle/dot laser marks the spot being measured, and two-key operation lets an operator aim and read a surface temperature instantly without contact. Surface temperature is shown on a backlit LCD.

Its wide low-to-mid range and long battery life make it well suited to plant maintenance, HVAC and refrigeration checks, and field work away from power. A Max function displays the highest reading captured during a session and a Hold mode freezes a reading so it can be noted after the target is out of view.

Operating Conditions & Performance

Key performance figures are taken from the OS561 specification table:

  • Measurement range: -60 to 500°C (-76 to 932°F)
  • Accuracy: ±2% rdg or 2°C (3.5°F); ±1.0°C (1.8°F) when Tobj=15~35°C and Tamb=25°C
  • Resolution: 1°C/1°F, improving to 0.1°C/0.1°F between -9.9 and 199.9 degrees
  • Response time: 1 second (90% of final value)
  • Emissivity: fixed 0.95
  • Field of view: 10:1
  • Operating temperature: 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F)
  • Storage temperature: -20 to 65°C (-4 to 149°F)
  • Power: two AAA 1.5 V alkaline batteries (included)
  • Battery life: 18 hours of continuous use with laser and backlight, and 180 hours without them
  • Weight: 179 g (6.3 oz) including batteries
  • Dimensions: 175.2 x 39.0 x 71.9 mm (6.9 x 1.53 x 2.8 in)

The built-in laser is a Class II laser certified to EN60825-1, and the instrument carries CE marking and ISO 9001 certification.

Configuration Options

The OS561-Series is supplied as a single fixed configuration rather than a set of optioned models, so its capabilities are built in rather than selected:

  • Emissivity is fixed at 0.95 and is not adjustable.
  • The field of view is fixed at 10:1, with circle/dot laser sighting that is active while measuring.
  • Readings can be switched between °C and °F, and the backlight stays on for low-light use.
  • Resolution auto-switches to 0.1°C/0.1°F between -9.9 and 199.9 degrees and is 1°C/1°F elsewhere.
  • Auto power-off is fixed at 15 seconds to preserve battery life.

Battery life itself distinguishes how the unit is used: 18 hours of continuous operation with the laser and backlight active, extending to 180 hours when both are off.

Key Product Differences

The series consists of a single handheld model:

  • OS561 — non-contact infrared thermometer with a 10:1 field of view, fixed 0.95 emissivity, and a -60 to 500°C (-76 to 932°F) range.

The model is ordered simply as OS-561, with no separate output, range, or enclosure options to configure.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as Advertised Bought this device for cursory measurements of surface temperatures, and it works fine for our purposes. Definitely not a high-precision machine, but that is not what it is advertised as.

Hi, is OS561 IR thermometer usable for medical purpose? I want to use it to check temperature of my staff in the purpose of detecting COVID-19 affected people

Asked by: Fernand
Thank you for your interest in our Product. The OS561 is not usable for medical purposes. You may want to consider instead the Handheld IR Omega OS-820D or the IR200 for Non-Contact Body Temperature measurements
