Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series CLT Continuous Level Transmitter is designed for continuous liquid level sensing using reed switch and magnet technology. The series utilizes a magnet-equipped float that rises or lowers with the liquid level, actuating a series of reed switches mounted within a sealed hollow tube to generate an output signal proportional to the level.
Documented applications include:
- Liquid level monitoring in tanks
- Sensing compatible liquids where particulate and debris are filtered from the media
- Hazardous area applications involving ignitable mixtures, combustible dust, or flammable materials when used with an appropriate explosion-proof enclosure or intrinsically safe interface device
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Series CLT operates within specific temperature and pressure limits defined by the selected float material. Buna-N floats support temperatures of 180°F (82°C) in water and -40 to 230°F (-40 to 110°C) in oil, with a maximum pressure rating of 150 psig (10 bar). Stainless steel (SS) floats operate from -40 to 230°F (-40 to 110°C) and support pressures up to 300 psig (21 bar).
Performance specifications include a resolution of 1/4" (6.35 mm). The series supports vertical mounting with an orientation tolerance of ±20°. Power requirements are 10-30 VDC for proportional voltage output models and 10-40 VDC for 4-20 mA output models, with a maximum loop resistance of 1.4k Ω.
Configuration Options
The Series CLT is configurable across multiple dimensions to accommodate specific installation requirements:
- Output Signals: Proportional voltage (0 to supply voltage) or 4-20 mA current loop.
- Stem and Connection Materials: Options include Brass with beryllium copper stops, or 316 SS with SS ARMCO PH-15-7MO stops.
- Float Types: Buna-N (F1, F2) for specific gravity minimums of 0.55; 316 SS (F3) for a minimum specific gravity of 0.75.
- Process Connections: Available in 1/2" NPT (output type V only), 1-1/4" NPT (float F1 only), 2" NPT, or 3" 150# flange (carbon steel or 316 SS).
- Dimensions: Indication lengths up to a maximum of 68" (173 cm) with an overall length limit of 72" (183 cm). Overall length is calculated by adding indication length, top float stop dimension "C", and the specific float factor.
- Housing: 4-20 mA models include a NEMA 4 (IP56) junction box; proportional voltage output models feature 24" (61 cm) free leads (#22 AWG, TFE jacketed).
Key Product Differences
The Series CLT distinguishes between two primary output configurations. Proportional voltage output units provide a signal ranging from 0 to the supply voltage via free leads and are limited to 1/2" NPT connections. The 4-20 mA configuration includes a junction box with an enclosure rating of NEMA 4 (IP56) and supports various connection types including flanges.
Float selection dictates both pressure capability and temperature limits in specific media; Buna-N floats are rated for lower pressures than SS floats. The series is not field-repairable, and units requiring recalibration or service must be returned to the factory with a Returned Goods Authorization (RGA) number.
