Supported Applications

The Omega AHPF Series consists of low-flow air process and liquid circulation heaters designed for in-line heating applications. These units are used to heat low flows of air, gas, water, or aqueous solutions. Documented application areas include laboratories and environmental testing facilities where clean air is necessary. The design heats the stream by passing it over an enclosed heated surface rather than directly over resistance elements, ensuring no foreign matter enters the flow.

The series also functions as a miniature circulation heater for small volumes of liquids such as photographic developer solution, chemicals, dyes, and inks.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The AHPF Series operates with process temperatures up to 430°C (800°F). The pressure rating is specified as Up to 100 psig. Media compatibility includes air, gas, water, aqueous solutions, photographic developer solution, chemicals, dyes, and inks.

Performance parameters are defined by flow rate requirements relative to watt density. Minimum CFM vs. Maximum Watts/Linear Inch of Heated Length specifications include 1 CFM at 75 W/inch, increasing to 15 CFM at 275 W/inch. The cross-sectional area is 0.152 square inches.

Pressure drop characteristics vary with air flow: 0 psig at 0 SCFM and 5 SCFM; 2.0 psig at 10 SCFM; and 4.0 psig at 15 SCFM. Wattage tolerance is +5, -10% or better at the voltage specified.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable electrical inputs and physical dimensions across eight model variants:

  • Voltage Options: 120 Vac models (AHPF-xx1) operate at 120 V. Dual-voltage models (AHPF-xx2) can be operated on either 120 or 240V.
  • Power Ratings: Power ranges from 100 W to 1,200 W depending on the model and selected voltage. For example, AHPF-062 provides 100 W at 120 V or 400 W at 240 V.
  • Heated Length: Available in four sizes: 102 mm (4 inch), 152 mm (6 inch), 203 mm (8 inch), and 254 mm (10 inch).
  • Total Dimensions: Overall length ranges from 152 mm (6 inch) to 305 mm (12 inch). The outside diameter is 32 mm (1¼").
  • Process Connections: Inlet features a Male ¼" NPT connection; Outlet features a Female ½" NPT connection.
  • Electrical Connection: Post terminals are provided for electrical hookup.

Key Product Differences

The AHPF Series distinguishes between single-voltage and dual-voltage configurations. Models ending in "1" (e.g., AHPF-061, AHPF-121) are 120 Vac only models with fixed wattage ratings of 400 W to 1,200 W. Models ending in "2" (e.g., AHPF-062, AHPF-122) support both 120 V and 240 V operation; at 120 V these models deliver lower wattage outputs compared to their 240 V ratings.

Wetted materials consist of a 316 Stainless Steel housing with a liquid turbulator wire. The series supports optional temperature monitoring via the Thermocouple 'T' fitting AHPF-NPT12, which accommodates subminiature thermocouple probes and SSLK series stainless steel compression fittings.

Operational notes specify that cold air entry should always be at the termination end of the heater. Controls such as an air flow switch are recommended to prevent operation without proper air flow. Incoming air or liquid should be filtered prior to passing through the heater and must be free of moisture, condensation, or other contaminants.

Do the two post terminals have polarity (ie designated positive/negative terminals) or can they be wired in any direction?

Asked by: AGS1215
The terminal posts will not have a polarity designation and they use AC Voltage so it is not polarity sensitive.

What temperature controllers are recommended to go with the AHPF-061 or 062?

Asked by: AGS1215
We have many to recommend but one with a DC pulse output to the appropriate SSR will provide fast response and the best Control. Contact the temperature engineering group to get some specific recommendations at temp@dwyeromega.com.

can you confirm that these can be mounted vertically?

Asked by: JoBur830
The AHPF can be mounted vertically because the heating element wires are held inside the tube and are not meant to move dependent on orientation.
