Supported Applications

The Omega SS-INC-TUBES series comprises miniature and standard protection tubes designed for use with fine or heavy gage thermocouples, ceramic insulators (such as OMEGATITE®), and standard thermocouples made from OMEGACLAD® wire. These tubes protect sensor elements in processes involving food processing, dairy products, petroleum products, mild acids, alkalis, molten babbitt, tin, lead, and magnesium.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series is constructed from 316 Stainless Steel or Inconel® 600 nickel alloy. While the primary data sheet focuses on dimensional specifications for these materials, a technical reference table within the documentation lists performance parameters for related materials: 304SS supports a maximum continuous operating temperature of 900°C (1650°F) and Black Steel up to 650°C (1200°F). The standard overall length available from stock is 150 mm (6"). Dimensional tolerances are specified as ±0.13 mm (0.005") for the outer diameter, with inner diameter tolerance matching the OD tolerance plus or minus 15% of the wall thickness.

Configuration Options

The series offers a broad range of configurations defined by material, size, end style, and length. Tubes are available either opened at both ends or with one end closed (designated "CLOSED" in model numbers). Standard lengths include 6", 12", 18", 24", 36", and 48 inches, though practically any length is available on short delivery.

Key configurable dimensions across the series include:

• Materials: 316 Stainless Steel (SS prefix) or Inconel® 600 (INC prefix).
• Diameters: Outer diameters range from 1.5 mm (¹⁄₁₆") to 12.5 mm (½").
• End Configurations: Open or closed end options.
• Mounting Options: OMEGALOK® compression fittings are available for securing tubes into pipes, vessels, and chambers; mounting flanges and bushings with standard NPT thread are also offered upon request. PFA coating is available by consulting sales.

Key Product Differences

Variants within the SS-INC-TUBES series differ primarily by material composition, outer diameter size code, and insertion length. The model number guide follows the format SS-<SIZE>-<END>-<LENGTH> or INC-<SIZE>-<END>-<LENGTH>. For example, SS-14-6CLOSED denotes a closed end 6.0 mm (¼") OD 316 Stainless Steel protection tube that is 150 mm (6") long.

Specific dimensional differences between materials are documented in the series specification table:

• SS-14 vs INC-14: Both have a 6.0 mm OD, but SS-14 has an ID of 4.93 (0.194) while INC-14 lists an ID of 5.33 (0.210).
• SS-716 vs INC-716: Both have a 11.0 mm OD, but SS-716 has an ID of 9.40 (0.370) while INC-716 lists an ID of 9.32 (0.367).
