Supported Applications

The Omega LDC Series Low Density Cartridge Heaters are designed for applications requiring lower operating temperatures and watt densities. Documented uses include heat sealing, laminating, packaging, labeling, molds, food processing, refrigeration, shoe machinery, glue guns, wax pots, and heating liquids or gases.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The LDC7 series features a helically wound Nickel-Chrome resistance wire within an Alloy 304 stainless steel sheath filled with high-purity Magnesium Oxide (MgO) for thermal conductivity and insulation. The maximum operating temperature is rated up to 650°C (1200°F). Maximum watt density ranges from 3.1 to 7.0 Watt/cm² (20 to 45 Watt/in²), depending on heater size and operating temperature.

Standard electrical specifications include a maximum voltage of 240V for diameters up to 1/2"; diameters 5/8" and larger support up to 480V when applicable. Maximum amperage varies by diameter, ranging from 1.5A (3/16") to 30A (1 1/4"). Wattage tolerance is specified as Plus 5%, minus 10%, with a resistance tolerance of Plus 10%, minus 5%.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable dimensions and electrical parameters to meet specific installation needs. Nominal diameters range from 3/16" to 1 1/4", with actual diameter tolerances of ±0.002" for sizes up to 15/16" and ±0.005" for larger sizes. Lengths are available in various increments, with length tolerance specified as ±1/16" up to 6" long and ±1/8" over 6" long.

Standard termination consists of Type F flexible leads, 254 mm (10") long, featuring high-temperature flexible insulation UL approved for 300 or 600V service and temperature rated to 250°C (482°F). Heavy wall nickel connectors are used for positive electrical connection. The series is available in multiple voltage configurations including 120V AC and 240V AC, with wattage options varying by model.

Approvals include UL recognized and CSA certified status under UL File Number E65652 and CSA File Number 043099 for many design variations. Over 40 standard termination styles are offered to address common application problems beyond the Type F lead configuration.

Key Product Differences

The LDC7 series encompasses a range of model numbers defined by diameter, length, voltage, and wattage (e.g., LDC). Specific variants differ in sheath dimensions and power output; for example, the 7/8" diameter models listed include lengths from 3.5" to 21.5" with wattages ranging from 250 W to 1000 W.

Model numbers such as LDC00316 and LDC00318 represent specific configurations within the series, differing primarily in voltage (120V vs 240V) while maintaining identical physical dimensions. The series supports both standard low-density designs and variations requiring UL or CSA Agency Approval upon specification at order.
