Supported Applications
The Omega LDC series comprises Low Density Cartridge Heaters designed for applications requiring lower operating temperatures and watt densities. Documented uses include heat sealing, laminating, packaging, labeling, molds, food processing, refrigeration, shoe machinery, glue guns, wax pots, and heating liquids or gases.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The LDC series features a helically wound Nickel-Chrome resistance wire within an Alloy 304 stainless steel sheath filled with high-purity Magnesium Oxide (MgO) insulation. The heaters operate at temperatures up to 650°C (1200°F). Standard watt density ranges from 3.1 to 7.0 Watt/cm² (20 to 45 Watt/in²), depending on heater size and operating temperature.
Electrical specifications vary by diameter, with maximum voltage ratings of 240V for diameters up to 1/2" and 480V** for larger sizes. Maximum wattage is listed as "Contact OMEGA." Wattage tolerance is Plus 5%, minus 10%; resistance tolerance is Plus 10%, minus 5%. The series holds UL File Number E65652 (UL recognized) and CSA File Number 043099 (CSA certified).
Configuration Options
The LDC series supports a broad range of dimensional configurations. Nominal diameters span from 3/16" to 1 1/4", with actual diameters ranging from 4.70 mm (0.185") to 31.75 mm (1.250"). Overall lengths are available from 1 1/2" to 38 5/8" (38.1 mm to 979.5 mm).
Standard termination is Type F with 254 mm (10") internally connected flexible lead wires featuring high-temperature insulation, UL approved for 300 or 600V service and temperature rated to 250°C (482°F). The series offers over 40 standard termination styles to address specific application problems.
Dimensional tolerances are defined as follows:
- Diameter Tolerance: 3/16" diameter: ±0.051 mm (±0.002"); 1 1/4" diameter: ±0.127 mm (±0.005")
- Length Tolerance: Up to 152 mm (6") long: ±1.59 mm (±1/16"); Over 152 mm (6") long: ±3.18 mm (±1/8")
- Camber Tolerance: 0.254 mm (0.010") per foot of length
Key Product Differences
The LDC series is distinguished by its low-density design, utilizing Alloy 304 stainless steel sheaths and MgO insulation for economical heating in lower-temperature processes. Model numbers follow the format: LDC - Diameter - Length - Voltage - Wattage. Specific model availability varies by voltage; some configurations are offered only at 120V or 240V, while others may not be available for a specific voltage in the standard grid. For UL and/or CSA Agency Approval on design variations beyond those listed, specification is required when ordering.
