Supported Applications

The Omega LDC Series Low Density Cartridge Heaters are designed for applications requiring lower operating temperatures and watt densities. Documented uses include heat sealing, laminating, packaging, labeling, molds, food processing, refrigeration, shoe machinery, glue guns, wax pots, and heating liquids or gases.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The LDC series features an Alloy 304 stainless steel sheath with a helically wound Nickel-Chrome resistance wire and Magnesium Oxide (MgO) fill for thermal conductivity and insulation. The maximum operating temperature is rated at 650°C (1200°F). Standard watt density ranges from 3.1 to 7.0 Watt/cm² (20 to 45 Watt/in²), depending on heater size and operating temperature.

Electrical specifications vary by nominal diameter, with maximum voltages up to 480V for diameters of 5/8 inch through 1 1/4 inches. Maximum amperage ranges from 1.5 A (3/16" diameter) to 30 A (1 1/4" diameter). Wattage tolerance is specified as Plus 5%, minus 10%, and resistance tolerance is Plus 10%, minus 5%.

Configuration Options

The series supports a broad range of dimensional configurations. Nominal diameters include 3/16, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 7/8, 15/16, 1, and 1 1/4 inch (actual diameters from 4.70 to 31.75 mm). Sheath lengths range from 38.1 mm (1 1/2") to 635.0 mm (25").

Standard electrical connections utilize Type F termination with 254 mm (10") internally connected flexible lead wires featuring high-temperature insulation, UL approved for 300 or 600V service and rated to 250°C (482°F). While the standard configuration includes these leads, over 40 standard termination styles are available.

Approvals include UL recognized and CSA certified status. Specific file numbers listed are UL File Number E65652 and CSA File Number 043099. If agency approval is required for a specific application, it must be specified when ordering.

Key Product Differences

The LDC series encompasses multiple model variations defined by sheath length, wattage, and diameter combinations. For the 1/2" nominal (0.496") diameter variant alone, models range from LDC00093 to LDC00162, offering power outputs between 40 W and 1100 W across lengths of 1 1/2" to 25".

Dimensional tolerances are specified as follows: diameter tolerance is ±0.002" (0.051 mm) for the 3/16" size and ±0.005" (0.127 mm) for the 1 1/4" size; length tolerance is ±1/16" (1.59 mm) up to 6" long, increasing to ±1/8" (3.18 mm) over 6" long. Camber tolerance is listed as 0.254 mm (0.010") per foot of length.

Notes indicate that the sheath end seal is not moisture proof and immersion heating of corrosive solutions requires contacting Omega for specific configurations.
