3-Way PVC Automated Ball Valves for Industrial & Chemical Use
- Available with a variety of electric and pneumatic actuators
- Field selectable socket or NPT connections
Product Overview
- Series ID Series-3PBV
Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series 3PBV is an automated 3-way ball valve designed for mixing or diverting services. Documented applications include industrial and chemical processes, turf and irrigation systems, pool and spa operations, and potable water service.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates within a process temperature range of 32 to 140°F (0 to 60°C) with an ambient limit of 0 to 150°F (-18 to 65°C). Pressure ratings are size-dependent: sizes from 1/2" to 1" support up to 232 psi (16.0 bar) @ 73°F (23°C), while sizes from 1-1/4" to 2" support up to 150 psi (10.3 bar) @ 73°F (23°C) WOG. The vacuum rating is 29" Hg.
Performance characteristics vary by actuator type and size:
- Cycle Time (per 90°): Two-position electric models range from 2.5 s for sizes 1/2" to 1-1/2", increasing to 5 s for the 2" size.
- Modulating Electric: Cycle time is 5 s across applicable sizes.
The valve features a 3-seat design with reinforced TFE seats and EPDM stem seals. Wetted materials include PVC for the body, end connectors, ball, and stem; TFE for the seat; and EPDM for the stem seal.
Configuration Options
The Series 3PBV is available with either electric or pneumatic actuators to meet specific control requirements. The valve body offers field-selectable process connections in Female NPT or socket configurations.
- Pneumatic Actuators: Available as double-acting (using air supply for both ports) or spring-return (air drives one direction, internal springs return the other). Enclosure rating is NEMA 4; optional NEMA 7 (Class 1, Div. II groups A, B, C, D).
- Electric Actuators: Offered in two-position or modulating control configurations.
Pneumatic models may include an SV3 solenoid valve option to electrically switch supply pressure between air ports. Electric actuators feature thermal overload protection, visual position indication, and a permanently lubricated gear train. The series supports NAMUR standard accessory mounting.
Key Product Differences
The Series 3PBV distinguishes itself through actuator technology and control logic:
- Pneumatic Double Acting vs. Spring Return: Double-acting models utilize air supply to drive each valve stem port, whereas spring-return models use the air supply for one direction of travel with internally loaded springs providing return force.
- Two-Position Electric vs. Modulating Electric: Two-position actuators operate on 115 VAC input (with optional voltages) to drive ports open or closed. The modulating actuator accepts a 4-20 mA input for infinite valve positioning.
Housing materials differ by actuator type: electric actuators use aluminum with thermal bonding polyester powder finish, while pneumatic actuators feature anodized aluminum bodies and epoxy-coated end caps. Electric models carry a NEMA 4 (IP56) rating; explosion-proof options are available for specific sizes.
