Supported Applications

The Omega SV Series (SV4100 and SV4300) comprises direct-acting, 3-way solenoid valves designed for controlling fluid flow in industrial automation systems. The series is specified for use with compressed air, inert gas, water, and synthetic oils.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The SV4100/SV4300 Series operates within a process temperature range of -10 to 137°C (14 to 280°F). Ambient operating temperatures are coil dependent. The valves feature brass bodies with stainless steel wetted parts and FKM seals.

Performance characteristics vary by model, pipe size, orifice configuration, and power supply type:

  • Response Time (AC Coils): Opening 8 to 15 msec; Closing 8 to 15 msec.
  • Response Time (DC Coils): Opening 10 to 20 msec; Closing 10 to 20 msec.
  • Maximum Operating Pressure Differential (M.O.P.D.): Ranges from 50 psi to 290 psi depending on the specific model and orifice size. For example, SV4301 lists a M.O.P.D. of 290 psi for both AC and DC coils, while SV4108 lists 50 psi.
  • Flow Factor (Cv): Available from 0.06 to 0.28 across the series variants.

The standard electrical enclosure rating is NEMA 4. The equipment is not intended for installation in hazardous environments or human applications.

Voltage and Power Specifications

  • Standard Supply: 120 Vac (8 W, AC Coils Standard).
  • Optional Supplies: 220 Vac and DC coils are available.
  • Coil Power Consumption: Inrush VA is 25; Holding VA is 14.5 for the standard 8 W coil configuration.

Mechanical Dimensions

The series supports pipe sizes of ⅛" and ¼" with BSP connections (noted as interchangeable in most cases with NPT). Valve dimensions are consistent across these sizes: A = 1 1/16", B = 37/16", C = 19/16". The standard 8 W coil measures D = 1 1/16", E = 1 21/32", F = 2 1/8".

Configuration Options

The series offers extensive configuration options through model selection and accessory availability. Variants are distinguished by their default state (Normally Open or Normally Closed), pipe size, orifice dimensions, flow factor, and electrical requirements.
  • Valve Action: SV4100 Series models are 3-way universal normally opened; SV4300 Series models are normally closed.
  • Pipe Sizes: Available in ⅛" and ¼" configurations.
  • Orifice Options: Includes sizes such as 3/64", 1/16", 5/64", 3/32", and 1/8" depending on the model number.
  • Electrical Connections: Units are supplied with a strain-relief connector. A ½" conduit plug is available as an option (SV-CC). Replacement cable grip connectors (SV-CGC) are also offered.

Replacement Coils and Accessories

The series supports various replacement coils to accommodate different voltage requirements and temperature ratings:
  • SV8COIL-115AC: 8 W coil for 110 to 120 Vac/50 to 60 Hz, rated 154°C (310°F) Class F.
  • SV8COIL-12DC / SV8COIL-24DC: 8 W coils for 12 Vdc or 24 Vdc, rated 154°C (310°F) Class F.
  • SV8COIL-24AC/60HZ: 8 W coil for 24 Vac/60Hz, rated 182°C (360°F) Class H.
  • SV8COIL-220AC: 8 W coil for 220 to 240/50 to 60 Hz, rated 154°C (310°F) Class F.
  • SV8COIL-115/60HZ: 8 W coil for 115/60 Hz, rated 182°C (360°F) Class H.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between the two model families is their default valve position. The SV4100 Series provides Normally Opened configurations where flow occurs when de-energized, while the SV4300 Series provides Normally Closed configurations where flow is blocked until energized.

Within each family, models are differentiated by pipe size (⅛" vs ¼") and orifice geometry. For instance, in the ⅛" category:

  • SV4101 / SV4301: Feature a 3/64" orifice with a Cv of 0.06.
  • SV4102 / SV4302: Feature a 1/16" orifice (or 5/64" for SV4303) with higher flow factors up to 0.14.

The Maximum Operating Pressure Differential decreases as the orifice size increases within a given pipe diameter. For example, in the ⅛" Normally Closed series (SV430x), the M.O.P.D. drops from 290 psi for model SV4301 to 70 psi for model SV4305.

Materials of construction are consistent across the series: Brass body, Stainless Steel 300 armature tube and spring, Stainless Steel 400 fixed core and plunger, Copper shading ring, and Stainless Steel 300 orifice. Seals utilize FKM material.

Can this valve be used with natural gas if fitted with a different seal and diaphragm kit?

This valve can be used with natural gas and is chemically compatible with the FKM o-ring.
