Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series 2500 is a microprocessor-based temperature control unit designed for industrial process applications requiring precise thermal regulation. The controller supports on-off, time proportioning, proportional, PI, PD, or full PID control actions programmable from the front panel or via Self-Tune PID functionality.
Standard features include an input fault timer, digital input filter, and a ramp-to-setpoint function adjustable from 0 to 100 hours. The unit is engineered for environments requiring water and corrosion resistance on the operator interface, with a NEMA 4X (IP65) rated front panel.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Series 2500 operates within an ambient temperature range of 14 to 131°F (-10 to 55°C). The controller provides a measurement accuracy of ±0.25% of span, ±1 degree with a display resolution selectable as 1 degree or 0.1 degree.
Power requirements are met by a supply voltage of 100-240 VAC nominal, ±10%, 50-400 Hz, single phase; or 132-240 VDC nominal, ±10%. The unit consumes a maximum of 5 VA. Memory is non-volatile and requires no batteries.
Electrical isolation ratings are specified as follows:
- Relay and SSR outputs: 1500 VAC
- 0-20 mA output: 500 VAC
- The 5 VDC switched voltage output is not isolated.
Configuration Options
The series accommodates a variety of sensor inputs and control outputs to match specific process needs. Input types are selectable from thermocouple types J, K, T, E, N, or L, as well as DIN, NIST, or Ni RTD sensors.
- Input Impedance: Thermocouple = 3 megohms minimum; RTD current = 200 μA maximum.
Control output options include Solid State Relay (SSR), mechanical relay, switched voltage, or proportional isolated current. Specific ratings are documented as follows:
- SSR Output: 2.5A @ 240 VAC resistive at 77°F (25°C); de-rates to 1.25A @ 130°F (55°C).
- Relay Output: SPDT, 10 A @ 240 VAC resistive.
- Switched Voltage (non-isolated): 5 VDC @ 20 mA.
- Proportional Isolated Current: 0-20 mA, selectable, into 600 Ohms maximum load resistance.
A programmable alarm function is available to act as a high or low limit, or a high/low guardband alarm. The controller features four password-protected security levels and allows selection between °F or °C display units.
Key Product Differences
The Series 2500 is offered in specific model configurations defined by the combination of Alarm, Input, and Output types. Available models include:
- Model 25111: Thermocouple input with SSR output.
- Model 25112: Thermocouple input with 5 VDC switched voltage output.
- Model 25113: Thermocouple input with Relay output.
- Model 25115: Thermocouple input with 4-20 mA proportional current output.
- Model 25125: RTD input with 4-20 mA proportional current output.
The controller housing requires a panel cutout of 3.622" x 3.622" (92 x 92 mm) with a depth behind the mounting surface of 4" (103 mm). The entire electronics package is field replaceable without wiring changes due to the removable front panel design.
When operating contactor or solenoid loads greater than 100 mA, the SSR output should be selected. If a Relay output is used for such inductive loads, P/N A-600 R/C Snubber must be ordered and installed across the coil to prevent damage.
