Supported Applications
The Omega EM22 Series comprises a line of 22.5 mm (0.88") industrial heavy-duty pushbuttons, switches, and indicating lights designed for panel-mounted control applications. The series serves as an extension of the proven E22 Series architecture, ensuring compatibility with existing E22 contact blocks, light units, accessories, and enclosures. Operators feature heavy-duty zinc die-cast construction with chrome-plated metal bezels to support demanding industrial environments.
Documented applications include general machine control via non-illuminated pushbuttons, selector switches, push-pulls, alternate action operators, and twist-to-release mechanisms. The series also supports illuminated units for status indication using transformer, full voltage, resistor, LED, or neon light options. Specific safety configurations are available through UL Listed E-Stop devices (File No. E217948) compliant with the Machinery Safety Directive EN418.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The EM22 Series is rated for operation in ambient temperatures from -20 to 60°C (-4 to 140°F), with a storage temperature range of -40 to 80°C (-40 to 176°F). Devices are designed for altitudes up to 2000 m (6562') and can withstand humidity levels up to Maximum 95% RH @ 60°C (140°F) at Pollution Degree 3 per IEC 947-1.
Mechanical endurance varies by operator type, with Pushbuttons rated for 5M operations and Contact Blocks rated for 3M operations. Selector Switches are rated for 500,000 operations, while Trigger-Action E-Stops support 100,000 operations. The series meets mechanical life requirements under vibration conditions of 5 g/0.7 mm peak to peak (10 sweeps, 10 to 500 Hz) and shock ratings of 30 g for 18 ms.
Electrical performance adheres to NEMA contact rating designations A600 and Q600 per UL 508. Per IEC/EN 60947-5-1, the series meets AC15 and DC13 ratings with an Impulse Withstand Voltage (Uimp) of 4 kV. The Rated Conditional Short Circuit Current is 1 kA when coordinated to IEC/EN 60947-5-1 using specified fuse types.
Configuration Options
The series offers a broad configuration envelope including various operator styles, illumination methods, and contact block arrangements. Devices are grounded when mounted to metal panels via the toothed mounting nut. Terminal clamps feature self-lifting or captive screw designs with fingerproof protection (IP2X) for wire ranges of 18 to 12 AWG (0.75 to 4.0 mm²).
Available operator configurations include:
- Pushbuttons: Non-illuminated, illuminated with Pres-Test options, and emergency stop operators.
- Selector Switches: Lever or knob operated in 2-position (maintained/momentary) or 3-position configurations; key-operated switches available at 45° rotation angles.
- Mechanical Actions: Push-pull, push-push (alternate action), and twist-to-release operators.
Illuminated units are offered with lens colors including Clear, Red, Green, White, and Amber. Contact blocks support circuit configurations such as 1 NO, 1 NC, 2 NO, Logic Level contacts, and self-monitoring contact blocks (E22CB1M). Accessories include rectangular guards, EMO round yellow nameplates, and various legend plates for functions like Start, Stop, Run, Off/On, and Emergency Stop.
Key Product Differences
The EM22 Series distinguishes itself through specific operator mechanics and illumination technologies. Non-illuminated operators utilize polyester or polycarbonate buttons with chrome-plated brass metal bezels. Illuminated variants incorporate Polycarbonate lenses and internal seals made of Nitrile rubber.
Model variations are defined by the operator type and circuit configuration:
- PB Operators (EM22P1, EM22E2): Flush or extended pushbuttons with chrome bezels in Black, Red, Green, or White plunger colors indicating specific contact states.
- Illuminated/Pres-Test (EM22T0–T3): Operators combining status indication with a test function for verifying light integrity.
- Emergency Stop (EM22J2N8, EM22LL2): 50 mm mushroom head operators or twist-to-release mechanisms designed for rapid actuation and reset.
- Contact Blocks: Logic Level contact blocks carry UL A600/Q600 ratings plus a minimum rating of 1 mA @ 5 Vdc, distinct from standard power contacts.
All rear-of-panel devices are marked with circuit configurations per CENELEC 500013 standards. The series supports enclosure ratings including UL (NEMA) Type 1, 2, 3, 3R, 4, 4X, 12 and 13 IEC IP65 when mounted in compatible enclosures.
