Supported Applications

The Omega CL542-PLUS is an automated thermocouple calibrator designed for checking, calibrating, and measuring thermocouple sensors. The device supports multiple thermocouple types including J, T, E, K, R, S, B, N, G, C, D, L, U, and Platinel II.

Key functional capabilities include:

  • Simulating thermocouple signals in °C, °F, or millivolts
  • Reading thermocouple sensors directly via the miniature connector
  • Providing automatic output stepping for quick calibration sequences
  • Operating with a backlit display suitable for dark environments

Operating Conditions & Performance

The CL542-PLUS provides measurement resolution of 0.1° increments in °C or °F and 0.001 mV increments. The unit is powered by four (4) 'AA' 1.5V batteries, with alkaline batteries recommended for maximum battery life and performance.

Operational indicators include a low-battery warning ('BAT') on the display when approximately one to four hours of typical operation remain before automatic shutdown. An OVERLOAD indicator lights if excessive voltage or current is detected. The device features an OMEGA switch for preset temperature outputs and a push-button knob for fine adjustment.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable settings accessible via the configuration menu, including units (°C), thermocouple type selection (e.g., K), cold junction compensation status (ON/OFF), backlight control, step count, step time, auto-off function, and display options for millivolts or cold junction temperature.

Physical interface features include:

  • A female miniature thermocouple connector mounted in the top end of the housing
  • Two banana jacks on the top end specifically for millivolt signals only (not temperature compensated)

Key Product Differences

The CL542-PLUS features a rugged, low-profile design with a rubber boot and switch housing. Removing the batteries resets all stored configuration options to factory defaults.
