Supported Applications

The Omega BB705 series is a very high temperature, laboratory-grade blackbody calibration source designed for testing and calibrating non-contact infrared temperature instruments. The unit functions as a reference standard for infrared pyrometers across the documented operating range.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The BB705 series maintains an accuracy of ±0.25% of reading; ±1°C with a cavity emissivity of 0.99. The blackbody cavity operates from 100 to 1046°C (212 to 1915°F). Internal sensing elements utilize platinum thermocouples, and the unit demonstrates stability of 0.4°C (0.7°F) per 8-hour period.

Ambient operating conditions are specified from 0 to 35°C (32 to 95°F). The warm-up time is documented as 80 minutes from 100°C to 1000°C. Each unit includes a NIST-traceable calibration certificate with 3 data points.

Configuration Options

The series features a built-in PID autotune controller with digital readout and an RS232 communication standard interface for external control or monitoring via CN8-SW software. The physical design includes a large aperture opening of 44.5 mm (1.75"). Overall dimensions are 566 W x 520 H x 600 mm D (22.3 x 20.5 x 23.6") with a weight of 31 kg (68 lb).

Power supply options support two voltage configurations:

  • BB705: Blackbody, 110 Vac
  • BB705-230VAC: Blackbody, 230 Vac

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between models in the BB705 series is the input voltage rating. The standard model (BB705) operates on 115 Vac 50/60 Hz, while the variant (BB705-230VAC) supports 230 Vac 50/60 Hz for European models or specific regional requirements.

I have a question about the Blackbody Calibrator for Very High Temperature Infrared Calibration (Item# BB705). Can it be used for calibrating heat flux sensors?

Asked by: Trinity75
Thank you for your interest in our product . Please provide more details of your Heat Flux Sensor and email to temperature@omega.com for further review. The factory does not use Blackbody Calibrators for Heat Flux Sensor calibration A guarded hot plate and a conduction /reference sensor system is used
