Supported Applications
The CT5100 Series are programmable 1- or 2-channel circular chart recorders that measure and display up to two process variables and trace them, one or two pens, onto a 254 mm (10") circular chart. A 4-digit LED display and three front-panel keys make the recorder easy to configure and read at the point of use.
A single recorder accepts a wide mix of process inputs - thermocouple, RTD, DC current and DC voltage - so it suits temperature, flow, level and general process trending in the field or on a panel. Up to two alarm points per pen can drive SPDT relay contacts for on-off control, and an RS-485 port running MODBUS RTU protocol allows the recorder to be integrated into a wider monitoring system.
Housed in an injection-molded Noryl case with an acrylic window and a NEMA 3 (IP54) rating, the recorder is UL and cUL listed and FM Approved. Note: installation should be performed by qualified personnel, away from excessive moisture, oil, dust and vibration, and the required AC input power should be verified before installation.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The recorder accepts thermocouple types J, K, T, R and S and Pt100 RTDs, with reference ranges of:
- Type J: 0 to 760 °C (0 to 1400 °F)
- Type K: 0 to 1360 °C (0 to 2500 °F)
- Type T: -200 to 400 °C (-330 to 752 °F)
- Types R and S: 200 to 1650 °C (400 to 3000 °F)
- Pt100 RTD: -140 to 400 °C (-220 to 752 °F)
Process inputs cover DC current of 0 to 20 mA and 4 to 20 mA, and DC voltage spans of 0 to 25 mV, 0 to 50 mV, 10 to 50 mV, 0 to 5 V and 1 to 5 V. Accuracy is ±0.25% of span ±1 degree for thermocouple and RTD inputs and ±0.25% of scaled span plus 1 least-significant digit for mA, mV and Vdc inputs, with a cold-junction compensation error of ±0.2°C @ 25°C (±0.36°F @ 77°F). Input impedance is under 0.1 Ω for thermocouple and Pt100 inputs.
The recorder scans once per second for non-RTD inputs and once per 1.2 seconds for RTD inputs. It operates from 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F) at 10 to 90% RH non-condensing and stores at -40 to 65°C (-4 to 149°F). Standard power is 90/264 Vac, 50/60 Hz, with a low-voltage option of 20 to 50 Vac at 50/60 Hz or 22 to 65 Vdc. Alarm relay contacts are rated 5 A resistive @ 115 Vac and 2.5 A resistive @ 230 Vac.
Configuration Options
Models differ by pen count and by the alarm, security and power options fitted. The core distinction is channel count:
- 1-pen recorders (CT5100 family) trace a single process variable.
- 2-pen recorders (CT5110 family) trace two variables at once, with alarm relays configurable per channel.
Within each channel count, alarm capability steps up from none, to one alarm relay, to two alarm relays per channel, and an alarm can be configured as a latching limit device that requires a manual reset button. Add-on options are ordered by suffix: +CE adds CE approval and +XPS adds a transmitter power supply, while a door-lock version secures the front door. A low-voltage power option covers 20 to 50 Vac or 22 to 65 Vdc where mains power differs.
Key Product Differences
The model number follows the guide CT5100 - <recorder type> - <alarm relays> - <door lock>. The orderable line covers both channel counts and their alarm and lock builds:
- CT5100 - 1-pen recorder.
- CT5101 - 1-pen recorder with 1 alarm relay.
- CT5102 - 1-pen recorder with 2 alarm relays.
- CT5100-LOCK - 1-pen recorder with door lock.
- CT5110 - 2-pen recorder.
- CT5112 - 2-pen recorder with 1 alarm relay per channel.
- CT5114 - 2-pen recorder with 2 alarm relays per channel.
- CT5110-LOCK - 2-pen recorder with door lock.
Consumables and accessories include red pens for channel 1 (CT7000-RED), green pens for channel 2 (CT7000-GREEN), and circular chart paper in 24-hour and 7-day formats. Each recorder measures 355.6 W x 355.6 H x 96.5 mm D (14 x 14 x 3.8"), needs a panel depth of 64 mm (2.5") with a 33 mm (1.3") protrusion, and weighs 8.8 kg (15 lb) max.
