Supported Applications
The Omega HH500 Series comprises handheld digital thermometers designed for temperature measurement using external Type J or K thermocouples. These portable instruments are engineered to follow Reference Temperature/Voltage Tables (N.I.S.T. Monograph 175 Revised to ITS-90) and feature a NEMA 4X (IP56) enclosure, making them suitable for environments requiring dustproof protection and resistance to water splashes.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series supports measurement ranges of -50°C to 1370°C (-58°F to 1950°F) on standard models, while high-accuracy variants extend the range from -200°C to 1370°C (-328°F to 2498°F). Accuracy specifications vary by model: HH501AJK and HH501BJK offer ±(0.1% rdg + 1°C), whereas HH502 and HH503 provide enhanced accuracy of ±(0.05% rdg + 0.3°C).
Resolution is configurable at 0.1° or 1°, depending on the range, with a maximum display reading of 1999 for single-display models and up to 25,000 digits for multi-display configurations. The ambient operating temperature is specified as 23°C ±5°C (<75% RH), while storage conditions are defined in supporting documentation as -20°C to 60°C (-4°F to 140°F) at <70% R.H.
Configuration Options
The HH500 Series is available across four primary configurations, distinguished by input channel count and display architecture:
- Input Channels: Models support either 1 or 2 thermocouple inputs.
- Sensor Compatibility: All models accept Type J or K thermocouples via standard miniature connectors (flat blades spaced 7.9mm, center to center).
- Display Options: Variants include single backlit LCD displays and triple-display configurations for simultaneous readings.
- Power Supply: Operates on one included 9V battery with a typical life of up to 200 hours; auto power-off activates after 30 minutes of inactivity.
Additional features include Max/Min, Average (Avg), Hold, and Relative functions. The HH502 model includes a Warning Beeper. Each unit is supplied with a protective yellow rubber boot featuring an integrated tilt stand, along with one or two beaded wire thermocouples depending on the channel count.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes models by input capacity and display complexity:
- HH501AJK: 1-channel model with a single backlit LCD, measuring -50°C to 1370°C (-58°F to 1950°F) at ±(0.1% rdg + 1°C).
- HH501BJK: 2-channel model with a single backlit LCD, sharing the same range and accuracy as HH501AJK.
- HH502: 2-channel model featuring three displays (up to 25,000 digits) for differential or simultaneous readings; offers an extended low-temperature range of -200°C (-328°F) and improved accuracy of ±(0.05% rdg + 0.3°C).
- HH503: 1-channel model with three displays, matching the HH502's extended range and high-accuracy specifications.
All Type K models are supplied with a yellow rubber boot. Accessories include a soft carrying case (SC-HH500), NIST traceable calibration services (CAL-3-HH), and spare thermocouples (SC-TT-K-30-36).

Consistent readings.
Love 'em. I am using two of these to monitor the performance of a heat exchanger in my residential solar hot water system. Probes are placed beside 1/2 inch copper pipe and covered with insulation. I ordered the first one several years ago and just got the second one. For my purposes, accuracy or consistency of readings is very important, so I was glad to see that any differences in readings between the 4 sensors on the two meters appear to be no more than one or two tenths of a degree Fahrenheit.

Better than dial thermometer
I’m able to see what the temperature is anywhere in the sugarhouse. I’m able to see the sap become pure maple syrup.

Long delivery time And usage logic is poor
It is not very intuitive at all and in fact is hard to use. Who wrote the programming for this?
