Supported Applications

The Omega CN710 Series consists of microprocessor-based temperature process controllers designed for direct or reverse acting (cooling or heating) control. These panel-mount units feature dual 4-digit 7-segment LED displays showing the Process Value (PV) in red and Set Value (SV) in green. The series supports PID control with manual or auto-tuning capabilities.

Documented input types include Thermocouple and RTD sensors, enabling temperature monitoring across a wide range of industrial processes. Standard RS485 MODBUS communication allows for integration into automated systems.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The CN710 Series operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F). The front panel carries a rating of IP66. Power is supplied via AC 100-240V, 50/60 Hz.

Accuracy specifications are listed as ±0.25% span and ±1 least significant digit. Measurement ranges vary by input type:

  • Pt100Ω RTD: -200 to 600°C (-328 to 1112°F), among other sub-ranges
  • Thermocouple Type B: 100 to 1800°C (212 to 3272°F)
  • Thermocouple Types S and R: 0 to 1700°C (32 to 3092°F)
  • Thermocouple Type N, K, L, U: -200 to 1300°C (-328 to 2372°F) or lower limits depending on type
  • Thermocouple Types E, T, J: Ranges from -20 to 400°C (-4 to 752°F) up to -100 to 850°C (-148 to 1562°F)

The unit weight is 425 g (15 oz). Panel cutout dimensions are specified as 92 x 46 mm (3.6 x 1.8") with a maximum panel thickness of 9.50 mm (0.375"). The required panel depth is 79.2 mm (3.125").

Configuration Options

The series offers three primary output configurations, each with RS485 communications:

  • CN713: Relay output (SPDT, 5 A @ 250 Vac resistive)
  • CN712: DC pulse output (Voltage Pulse: 14V, 10 to -20%, maximum 40 mA)
  • CN715: Current output (4 to 20 mA)

All models include two alarm outputs configurable from 12 preprogrammed settings. The controllers feature easy-to-use programming menus and support for autotuning.

Accessories and Options

  • CNQUENCHARC: Noise suppression RC snubber (2 leads), rated for 110 to 230 Vac
  • CN7-485-USB-1: RS485 to USB mini-node converter

Free CN7-A software is available online. The unit comes complete with an operator's manual.

Wiring diagrams indicate specific terminal assignments for power (L/N), data (DATA+/DATA-), alarms (ALM1/ALM2), and sensor inputs (RTD +/- or Tc IN) which vary slightly by model number but follow consistent functional groupings. For example, CN740 models referenced in family documentation utilize different terminal layouts than the 1/8 DIN vertical CN710 series.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from So far it's a piece of junk. It immediately goes to "No Cont" and I've spent two days attempting to find the "input" register so I can see and modify the thermocouple type. I called the factory today. They said reset to factory settings following procedure on page 19 of the manual. I tried this 3 times to no avail.

What is the output rating for the alarm contact for model CN713 temperature controller ( in amps please)

Thank you for your inquiry. The CN713 has a mechanical relay with the specs 5 A @ 250 Vac resistive.
