Supported Applications

The Omega CN730 Series consists of microprocessor-based temperature process controllers designed for panel-mount installations. These units provide digital displays for Process Value (PV) and Set Value (SV), supporting thermocouple or RTD inputs to manage heating, cooling, or thermal regulation processes.

Key functional capabilities include:

  • PID control with autotune functionality
  • Dual alarm outputs
  • RS-485 communication for system integration
  • ON/OFF and manual tuning modes

Operating Conditions & Performance

The CN730 Series operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F). The controllers feature a front panel enclosure rating of IP66. Accuracy is specified as ±0.25% span, ±1 least significant digit.

Measurement ranges vary by input type and sensor selection:

  • B: 100 to 1800°C (212 to 3272°F)
  • S/R: 0 to 1700°C (32 to 3092°F)
  • N/K: -200 to 1300°C (-328 to 2372°F)
  • E: 0 to 600°C (32 to 1112°F)
  • T/J: -20 to 400°C (-4 to 752°F)
  • L/U: -200 to 800°C (-328 to 1472°F) and -200 to 500°C (-328 to 932°F)
  • Pt100Ω RTD: Ranges include 0 to 100°C (32 to 212°F), -20 to 500°C (-4 to 932°F), and -200 to 600°C (-328 to 1112°F)

Power supply requirements are AC 100-240V, 50/60 Hz. The unit weight is 425 g (15 oz).

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable output signals and communication options to match specific control architectures.

Output Configurations

  • CN733: Relay output with RS485 communications
  • CN732: DC pulse output with RS485 communications
  • CN735: 4 to 20 mA output with RS485 communications

Physical Dimensions & Installation

The CN730 Series utilizes a standard panel cutout of 96 x 96 mm (3.78 x 3.78 in) with an overall bezel dimension of 15.8 mm depth (0.625"). The series includes the following terminal functions:

  • Terminals 1, 2: DATA+ / DATA- (RS-485)
  • Terminals 11, 12: L / N (AC Power)
  • Alarm and Output terminals vary by model configuration

Accessories & Options

  • CNQUENCHARC: Noise suppression RC snubber (2 leads), rated for 110 to 230 Vac
  • CN7-485-USB-1: RS485 to USB mini-node converter
  • Free CN7-A software available for configuration and monitoring

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction within the CN730 Series is the output signal type, which determines the model number suffix:

  • CN733 models provide a mechanical relay output.
  • CN732 models provide a DC pulse output.
  • CN735 models provide an analog 4 to 20 mA current loop output.

All listed variants include RS-485 communication capability. The series is distinct from the CN710 and CN740 families, which feature different panel cutout dimensions (60 mm x 120 mm for CN710; 65 mm x 60 mm for CN740) but share similar input/output logic.

Installation notes specify that thermocouple or Class 2 wiring must not be run in the same conduit as power leads. For supply connections, No. 16 AWG or larger wires rated for at least 75°C are required. Screw torque for mounting should be set to 0.8 kgf-cm.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent little controller These little controllers come with a good array of features for the price. However, the mounting clips they come with are cheap, easily broken, and very difficult to get replacements without ordering a whole new controller.

For the Current Output option, when the controller is tuned correctly, is the 4-20mA output altered to maintain the setpoint or is it just a constant pulse?

Asked by: DJ92
Thank you for your inquiry DJ92. A 4-20 mA output changes depending on how close or far away you are from the setpoint. Therefore, a 4-20 mA is not a constant pulse.

Is the relay electromechanical or solid state? Is the relay enclosed?

Asked by: spock
The CN733 has one Relay: SPST, 5A @ 250 Vac resistive. Thanks for connecting with Omega. Please contact our Tech Support with any further questions.

I can no longer enter auto tune. When I get to the AT selection, I can't select ON. Is there some way to restore auto tune functionality?

Asked by: Ben H
Hi Anonymous, Please check that you are in PID mode and not in the Program mode for ramp soak. Best regards OMEGA
