Supported Applications
The Omega CNI-AL Series is a temperature and process limit controller designed for measurement and alarm applications. The series accepts inputs from thermocouples, RTDs, analog voltage, or analog current signals to monitor process variables.
- Sensor Inputs: Supports 10 different thermocouple types (J, K, T, E, R, S, B, C, N, L) and 18 RTD combinations including 100/500/1000 Ω Pt sensors with 2-, 3- or 4-wire configurations.
- Process Inputs: Accepts analog voltage (0 to 100 mV, 0 to 1 V, 0 to 10 Vdc) and current inputs (0 to 20 mA).
The unit provides two relay alarm outputs for high/low or band control logic. Process inputs are fully scalable, supporting virtually all engineering units with a selectable decimal point.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The CNI-AL Series operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 to 55°C (32 to 131°F) at up to 90% RH non-condensing. Accuracy specifications are defined by input type:
- Temperature Accuracy: ±0.5°C
- Process Accuracy: 0.03% rdg (reading)
- Stability: Thermocouple @ 25°C (77°F) is 0.05°C/°C with cold junction compensation; RTD stability is 0.04°C/°C; Process stability is 50 ppm/°C.
The reading rate is specified at 3 samples/s. For current inputs, the series utilizes a 5 Ω shunt and provides an excitation voltage of 24 Vdc @ 25 mA (not available with low power option). Input impedance is 10 MΩ for 100 mV ranges and 1 MΩ for 1 or 10 Vdc ranges.
Enclosure Ratings

- ½, ⅛ DIN: NEMA 4X/Type 4 (IP65) front bezel
Configuration Options
The series is available in three standard DIN sizes with configurable power options and display configurations.
- DIN Sizes:
- ¼ DIN: 48 H x 96 W x 127 mm D (1.89 x 3.78 x 5")
- ⅛ DIN: 48 H x 48 W x 127 mm D (1.89 x 1.89 x 5")
- ½ DIN: 25.4 H x 48 W x 127 mm D (1.0 x 1.89 x 5")
- Power Supply: Standard models accept 90 to 240 Vac ±10%, 50 to 400 Hz, or 110 to 300 Vdc. A low voltage power option supports 24 Vac or 12 to 36 Vdc (external source must meet safety agency approvals).
- Outputs: Two SPDT relay outputs rated at 250 Vac or 30 Vdc @ 3 A (resistive load).
- Display:
- ¼ DIN: Single 4-digit 9-segment LED, 21 mm (0.83")
- ⅛ and ½ DIN: Multi-color programmable display, 10.2 mm (0.40")
- Configuration: Front panel buttons allow selection of input type, alarm conditions, and display color.
The controller supports an external reset input and a buzzer audio annunciator. Electrical connections are made via front removable plug connectors.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the CNI-AL Series differ primarily by DIN size, power supply rating, and display dimensions:
- CNI8-AL / CNI16-AL / CNI32-AL: Standard models with 90 to 240 Vac or 110 to 300 Vdc power.
- CNI8-AL-DC / CNI16-AL-DC / CNI32-AL-DC: Low voltage options supporting 24 Vac or 12 to 36 Vdc inputs.
The series holds CE, UKCA, and UL US approvals. All models include a 1 YEAR WARRANTY.

Good limit controller, decent reliability, ok QC
Using the CNi16-AL for a limit controller isn't difficult. The calibration on them has been hit or miss and the manual says to press: enter, up, enter. When it is: enter, menu, enter to calibrate. Recently I had one that was reading off by 20% no matter how it was calibrated or even with an offset it may have been defective.

What does this mean? Review title, title of what?
Controller asked for what type rtd, 392 or 385.
Could find nothing in literature of the pr-14h-3-100-1/4-2 I purchased.

Reliable and simple wiring
Fairly simple to configure and easy wiring. Needed a dual alarm to replace a failed unit on a weather-ometer chamber. One alarm for turning on cooling water and the other for overtemperature shutdown. Works great with 3-wire RTD. I didn't get into changing display colors as the unit is behind a hinged panel.

What are the dimensions for the cut out of the CN i16?
Thank you for the inquiry Kees. For the CNi16 which has a 1/16 DIN size, each side of the square panel cutout should be 1.772 +.024/-.000 inches (45.00 +0.61/-0.00 mm).

Is it possible to flip the relay output so that when the unit is in a normal condition per the alarm settings, the NO relay is closed; and when the unit then goes into alarm state, the NO relay opens?
Thank you for inquiry Mech. Unfortunately, this unit does not have that ability to flip the relay output. Please check our Platinum series PID controller CNPT or CNI which does have that function.
