Supported Applications
The Omega CN8200 Series comprises 1/16 DIN universal temperature and process controllers designed for applications requiring precise autotuning, ramp-to-setpoint control, and multi-segment programming. The series supports field-configurable universal inputs including thermocouples (J, K, T, N, R, S, B, C, E), RTDs (3-wire 100 Ω Pt), Platinel II, voltage, current, and millivolt signals.
Key functional capabilities include:
- Ramp/Soak Control: Configurable for up to 8 ramp segments followed by 8 soak segments.
- Dual Display: Simultaneous Process Value (PV) and Setpoint (SV) indication with individual status LEDs.
- Remote Monitoring: Compatible with CN8-SW software for remote monitoring and control via RS232/485 communications options.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The controller operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 to 55°C (32 to 131°F) at a maximum humidity of 90% RH, non-condensing. The front panel features a NEMA 4X (IP65) enclosure rating.
Performance specifications include:
- Accuracy: ±0.2% FS, ±1 digit for rated accuracy conditions.
- Response Time: 10 Hz (100 ms).
- Hysteresis: Adjustable from 1 to span of sensor.
- Resolution: 1 count or 0.1 count depending on range selection.
The series supports a wide array of measurement ranges, including -270 to 1354°C (-454 to 2469°F) for specific thermocouple types and scalable electrical inputs from -1999 to 9999. Load resistance is limited to 100 Ω maximum for rated accuracy on analog outputs.
Configuration Options
Power Supply Options
The standard power supply supports a universal range of 100 to 250 Vac and 120 to 250 Vdc. An optional low-voltage configuration (-LV suffix) is available for 24 Vac/24 Vdc operation.
Input Types
The universal input capability covers the following sensor types:
- Thermocouples: J, K, T, N, R, S, B, C, E (including CHROMEGA®-ALOMEGA®, OMEGALLOY®, and W/5%Re-W/26%Re).
- RTDs: 3-wire 100 Ω Pt.
- Analog Signals: Voltage (0 to 1V, 1 to 5V, 0 to 5V, 0 to 10V), Current (4 to 20 mA, 0 to 20 mA), and Millivolt ranges.
Output Configurations
The series is available in single-output (CN8201) or dual-output (CN8202) models. Output types include:
- Mechanical Relay: 5 A @ 120 Vac, 3 A @ 240 Vac.
- Solid State Relay (SSR): 1 A continuous, 10 A surge @ 25°C.
- DC Pulse: 20 Vdc pulse output.
- Analog Current/Voltage: 4 to 20 mA (up to 800 Ω or 1000 Ω maximum depending on suffix), 0 to 5V, 0 to 10V, and various mV ranges.
Additional Options
The series supports a single additional option per controller. Available options include:
- Alarms: Single-alarm mechanical relay (-AL1), dual alarms with AC SSR (-AL2), or dual DC level alarms at 24 Vdc (-AL3).
- Communications: RS232 (-C2) or RS485 (-C4). The -C4 option can be configured for MODBUS® protocol and includes variants with digital inputs (switch closed, switch open, or 0/5V logic).
- Remote Setpoint: Switch-based or voltage-based remote setpoints.
- Transducer Excitation: Available at 15 Vdc (-XP1), 12 Vdc (-XP2), 10 Vdc (-XP3), or 5 Vdc (-XP4).
Key Product Differences
The CN8200 Series is differentiated by model number and output configuration:
- CN8201-(-*): Single-output ramp/soak controller.
- CN8202-(-*)-(-*): Dual-output ramp/soak controller, allowing independent selection of first and second output types (e.g., Relay + SSR).
The ordering suffix structure defines the specific configuration: <MODEL> - <FIRST OUTPUT SUFFIX> - <SECOND OUTPUT SUFFIX> - <LOW VOLTAGE SUFFIX> - <ADDITIONAL OPTION SUFFIX>. For example, a dual-output model with DC pulse and relay outputs configured for low voltage and an alarm would follow the pattern CN8202-DC1-R2-LV-AL3.
The series includes UL US and C UL US approvals. A 2-year warranty is standard, with OMEGACARE™ extended warranty programs available.

Confusion
You should have shipped all 5 units together instead of splitting the order. No explanation provided. That just caused unnecessary confusion.

How do you access the jumpers for current input on a CN8200
Hi KarenCT,
Thank you for the inquiry. Manual pg 19 illustrates jumper positions.
https://assets.omega.com/manuals/M2942.pdf
To access the jumpers the outer shell will need to be removed. Clear the terminal blocks, press in at detents, and slide the shell towards the back.
Best regards,
OMEGA

If you do not support the current Windows OS, can you help with Matlab or Labview codes that connect to the controller based on RS232 communication?
Hi Olaf,
Thank you for the inquiry. Manuals for the CN8200 series include the serial command set. This may be useful to you. We do not offer example code for 3rd party software though.
Best regards
OMEGA
