Supported Applications

The Omega OMDC-125 Series provides variable speed control for DC permanent magnet, shunt wound, and some universal (AC/DC) motors. The series converts incoming AC voltage to an adjustable full-wave rectified DC output suitable for motor armature drive.

  • PM (Permanent Magnet) Motors
  • Shunt Wound Motors
  • Universal (AC/DC) Motors

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates within an ambient temperature range of -10°C to 45°C (-10°C [15°F] to 45°C [113°F]). Power supply options include dual voltage 120/240 VAC or low-voltage inputs of 24 to 36 VAC. Output voltages are available in ranges of 0-20 / 0-30 VDC for the OMDC-123D-C model and 0-90 / 0-180 VDC for the OMDC-125DV-C models.

Performance capabilities vary by input voltage and horsepower rating:

  • At 120/240 VAC input: Horsepower ranges from ⅛ to ½ HP (at 120 Vac) or ¼ to 1 HP (at 240 Vac).
  • At 24-36 VAC input: Output current ranges from 150mA through 5.5 ADC.

The control features an overload capacity of 200% for one minute and includes transient voltage protection. Standard electrical connections utilize a barrier type terminal strip or an 8-position terminal strip depending on the specific model configuration.

Configuration Options

The OMDC-125 Series offers configurable options to address specific control requirements, including acceleration/deceleration timing and signal following capabilities. Key features include adjustable IR compensation, adjustable current limit, shunt field supply provision, voltage following mode, DC tachometer feedback (via ungrounded analog input 0 to 12 Vdc), and an inhibit circuit that permits start/stop without breaking AC lines.

Available Options

  • -2A: Independently adjustable linear accel/decel time (-1/-2A, -5/-7, -11/-15B/-K, -29B, -55G/-56G)
  • -5: 4 to 20 mA isolated signal follower
  • Two Speed Operation
  • Dynamic Braking
  • Tach Feedback/Follower
  • Inhibit Functions

A speed potentiometer kit (leads, dial, and knob) is included. For applications requiring increased armature amps beyond the standard 5.5 Amps UL rating, an external heat sink (OMDC-HS125) allows output to increase up to 10.0 Amps.

Model Selection

  • OMDC-123D-C: Low voltage input (24/36 Vac), 150 mA to 5.5 ADC, 0-20 / 0-30 Vdc output.
  • OMDC-125DV-C: Dual voltage input (120/240 Vac), horsepower ranges from ⅛ to ½ HP or ¼ to 1 HP depending on line voltage, with outputs of 0-90 / 0-180 Vdc.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between low-voltage and dual-voltage configurations. The OMDC-123D-C model is designed for 24/36 Vac inputs with lower output voltages (0 to 20 Vdc or 0 to 30 Vdc) suitable for small DC motors up to 5.5 ADC. In contrast, the OMDC-125DV-C models operate on standard line voltage (120/240 Vac), providing higher output voltages (0 to 90 Vdc at 120 Vac; 0 to 180 Vdc at 240 Vac) for motors ranging from ⅛ HP up to 1 HP.

Specific model suffixes denote added functionality: the -2A option provides independently adjustable linear acceleration and deceleration, while the -5 option enables a 4-20 mA isolated signal follower. The OMDC-HS125 is an accessory heat sink (7 x 6.25 x 1.375") required for motors exceeding specific horsepower thresholds on certain input voltages to maintain safe operating temperatures.

Approvals include cULus Recognized, U.L. File # E78180, CE, UL US, and RoHS compliance.
