Supported Applications

The Omega FMG600 Series electromagnetic flow meters are designed for measuring instantaneous flow rate and volume of conductive, non-magnetic liquids. Operating on Faraday's law of induction to generate a voltage proportional to flow velocity, these meters feature no moving parts and a PTFE lining suitable for applications involving wastewater, pulp, food, and slurries.

Key application constraints include:

  • Liquid Type: Conductive liquids with a minimum required conductivity of 20 µS/cm (or 20 µS).
  • Environment: Standard non-explosive environments only.
  • Safety Note: These products are not designed for use in, and should not be used for, human applications.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The FMG600 Series delivers specific performance metrics across its documented operating envelope. Accuracy is defined by flow rate percentage relative to the specified maximum (Qs): ±0.5% from 5 to 100% Qs and ±1% from 1 to 5% Qs.

Operational limits are as follows:

  • Flow Velocity Range: 0.328 to 32.81 fps (0.1 to 10 m/s).
  • Process Temperature: 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F) for standard configurations; extended range of 0 to 150°C (32 to 302°F) is available with remote electronics.
  • Ambient Operating Temperature: -5 to 55°C (23 to 131°F).
  • Storage Temperature: -10 to 70°C (14 to 158°F).
  • Humidity Rating: Up to 70% relative humidity.
  • Pressure Rating: Rated for up to 145 psi (10 bar) as indicated on rating plates; specific models support ANSI 150# flanges.

The series includes a NIST 3-point calibration certificate. The threshold flow rate value shall be set between 0.5 and 1% of the specified maximum flow rate.

Configuration Options

The FMG600 Series supports configuration across mounting styles, sensor sizes, output signals, and optional features to meet specific installation needs.

Sensor Sizes and Mounting Options

  • Nominal Pipe Size: Available from 15 mm (½") up to 300 mm (12").
  • Process Connections: Configurable with ANSI 150# flanges or sanitary Tri-Clover mounts.
  • Housing Configuration: Compact version for local display; remote version available with special cable connection and IP68 enclosure rating (compact versions rated IP67).

Outputs and Communication

  • Analog Output: 4 to 20 mA active current output or two passive binary outputs (frequency, pulse, limit values) with galvanic isolation.
  • Digital Interface: RS485 communication line and USB support for digital data transfer.

Wetted Materials and Options

  • Lining: PTFE lining standard across the series.
  • Electrodes: Standard Hastelloy C4; Tantalum electrodes available as an option (add "-TE").
  • Grounding: Third Tantalum Grounding Electrode optional (add "-TGE").
  • Detection Features: Empty Pipe Detection is configurable via the model number suffix "-EPD".
  • Calibration Options: 4-point NIST Calibration (-NIST4) and 10-point NIST Calibration (-NIST10).

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between compact and remote configurations, as well as specific mounting styles. Model numbers follow the pattern FMG600 - SIZE - MOUNTING - DISPLAY - OPTIONS.

  • Compact vs. Remote: Models without a suffix or with specific mounting codes typically feature local display electronics (compact). Adding "-R" to the model number designates a remote version where the transmitter is separated from the sensor.
  • Mounting Style Suffixes: The letter "S" in the part number indicates a sanitary Tri-Clover mount, while models without this suffix typically utilize ANSI 150# flanges for industrial piping applications.
  • Power Supply Options: Standard power is 24 Vdc. A switchable 115/230 Vac power supply option is available by adding "-VAC" to the model number.
