Supported Applications
The ACI Thermistor Pipe Mount Series consists of temperature sensors designed for use with electronic controllers in commercial heating and cooling building management systems. The series is engineered to monitor air temperature within HVAC applications, specifically targeting pipe or coil sizes ranging from ½" (12.7mm) to 1" (25.4mm). These sensors are intended for surface mounting on pipes using a supplied nylon wire tie; they should not be fully submerged in water.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates within an ambient temperature range of -40 to 150°C (-40 to 302°F) and supports storage temperatures from -40 to 85°C (-40 to 185°F). The sensors function in humidity levels between 10 to 95% RH, condensing. Performance characteristics vary by sensor element type:
- Thermistors (Non-Linear NTC): Accuracy is typically +/-0.2°C (+/-0.36°F) across the 0-70°C range. Exceptions include the A/10K-E1 Series at +/-0.3°C (+/-0.54°F), and the A/1.8K Series which offers +/- 0.5°C @ 25°C (77°F) with a wider tolerance of (+/-1.0°C) (+/-1.8°F).
- Response Time: The series exhibits a nominal response time of 20 seconds for a 63% step change.
The sensors utilize ACI's double encapsulation process with thermally conductive epoxy to eliminate moisture effects and improve thermal response. For optimal accuracy, the manufacturer recommends cleaning the pipe surface and applying silicone-free heat transfer paste between the sensor and pipe before fastening.
Configuration Options
The series offers a broad configuration envelope for specific installation needs, including various thermistor curves, lead lengths, wire types, and certification options. The standard probe features a 1.10" (27.9mm) long brass enclosure with a small curvature on the bottom to increase surface area.
Sensor Elements & Output Signals
Available thermistor nominal resistances at specified temperatures include:
- A/1.8K: 1.8 KΩ (Red/Yellow)
- A/2252: 2.252 KΩ (White/Red)
- A/3K: 3 KΩ (White/Brown)
- A/AN (Type III): 10 KΩ (White/White)
- A/AN-BC: 5.238 KΩ (White/Yellow) with an internal shunt
- A/CP (Type II): 10 KΩ (White/Green)
- A/CSI: 10 KΩ (Green/Yellow)
- A/10KS: 10 KΩ (White/Blue)
- A/10K-E1: 10 KΩ (Gray/Orange or Orange/Gray depending on source context, listed as Gray/Orange in primary spec table)
- A/20K: 20 KΩ (Brown/Blue)
- A/50K: 50 KΩ (Brown/Yellow)
- A/100KS: 100 KΩ (Black/Yellow)
Lead Wire & Cable Options
Sensors are supplied with two non-polarity sensitive leads. Standard configurations include:
- Standard Lead Length: 24" (61 cm) of 22 AWG (0.65mm) Etched Teflon (PTFE) colored leads.
- Extended Leads: Configurable lengths include 10' (3.05m), 20' (6.10m), and custom options like 6'. Note that the 20' length is RoHS Compliant but not CE Compliant.
- Cable Types: Options include standard Etched Teflon, CL2P Plenum Rated Cable, or Z (2 Conductor White Zip Wire).
Approvals & Certifications
The series carries CE, RoHS2, and WEEE approvals. A NIST Certificate of Calibration (3 Points) is available as an option.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the Therm-Pipe-Mount series are distinguished by sensor curve type, lead length, wire insulation rating, and calibration certification. The model number structure follows the format: A/ - PM - - - . For example, a standard 24" thermistor is ordered as A/AN-PM, while a plenum-rated version with extended leads might be designated A/CP-PM-10'CL2P. The series also supports optional accessories such as thermal grease (silicone-free) and hardware for alternative mounting configurations.
