Supported Applications

The Omega JBox-4800 is an AC or DC powered Summing Transmitter designed for precision weighing applications using load cells. It functions as a summing transmitter capable of processing signals from up to four load cells, providing built-in excitation and three-way isolation suitable for industrial process control add-on loops.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The JBox-4800 operates within an ambient temperature range of 10 to 35°C (50 to 95°F) with a total temperature coefficient of 0.0025%/°C typical. Accuracy is specified as less than ±0.1% at 10 V excitation between 10 and 35°C. The unit accepts an input range of 5 mV to 50 mV full scale with a linearity of ±0.01% FS.

Performance characteristics include a response time rise (10% to 90%) of 35 ms, reaching 0.1% of the final value in 100 ms. The amplifier section provides common-mode rejection of 100 dB minimum and handles input noise of 2 μV PP from 0.1 Hz to 10 Hz.

Configuration Options

The series supports configurable output signals, power inputs, and enclosure options tailored for specific installation requirements:

  • Output Signals: Available in current outputs of 0 to 20 mA or 4 to 20 mA (with a zero monitor capability of -0.3 mA), and voltage outputs of 0 to 10 Vdc or 2 to 10 Vdc.
  • Bridge Excitation: Built-in supply adjustable from 5 to 10 Vdc, delivering up to 120 mA load current with line regulation less than 0.01% typical.
  • Tare Adjustment: Three ranges available: -3 mV to +6.5 mV; +6.5 mV to +16 mV (80% F.S of a 3 mV/V cell at 10 V); and +16 mV to +25 mV.
  • Power Supply: AC input supports 115 V (90 to 130 V) or 230 V (180 to 260 V), 50/60 Hz; DC input supports 11 to 30 V.
  • Housing: Offered in a NEMA 4 Box or an optional NEMA 4X Stainless Steel Box. The enclosure rating is NEMA 4 (IP65).
  • Isolation: Three-way isolation standard: AC to Input/Output at 750 VAC; DC to Input/Output at 300 VDC with 500 pF.

The unit features four black connectors on the bottom of the enclosure for electrical connections. Optional capabilities include High/Low Setpoint-Ready User Plug-In Relays and an Opto22 I/O Module for comparator output applications.

Key Product Differences

The JBOX-4800 is a single model family designated as the 4-input summing transmitter. The primary variation lies in the enclosure material, available as either a standard NEMA 4 Box or an optional NEMA 4X Stainless Steel Box.

Output configuration varies by user selection of zero points (0 mA/2 V vs. 4 mA/10 V) and signal type (current vs. voltage). The board is wired and socketed to accept plug-in relays for high and low setpoint alarms, which are not included in the base unit but activated upon installation.
