Supported Applications
The Omega PTHF and CIT series bundle two distinct immersion heater families designed for specialized process heating. The PTHF Series is engineered for corrosive solutions, utilizing corrosion-resistant thin-blade elements to withstand aggressive media. The CIT Series provides heavy-duty melting capabilities for soft metals including solder, lead tin, stereotype metals, and babbitt.
Note: The CIT Series is not suitable for immersion heating of zinc or aluminum applications.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series supports two distinct process temperature envelopes based on the specific family selected:
- PTHF Series: Process temperatures up to 100°C (212°F).
- CIT Series: Process temperatures up to 950°F.
The PTHF Series is designed for 3-phase electrical operation and includes overtemperature protection. Both series are manufactured in the USA and carry UL approval certifications.
Configuration Options
This consolidated offering covers a broad range of power ratings, voltages, and mounting configurations across both families:
- Power Ratings (PTHF Series): Available in 3 kW, 4 kW, 6 kW, 8 kW, and 10 kW.
- Voltage Options (PTHF Series): Configured for 240 V or 480 V at 3-phase.
- Power Ratings (CIT Series): Available in 3 kW, 5 kW, and 10 kW configurations.
- Voltage Options (CIT Series): Configured for 240 V operation.
- Housing & Connections:
- PTHF: PVC Terminal Box with Mounting Plate; Style C terminal enclosure; Over-the-side mounting.
- CIT: Fully enclosed cast iron terminal box; 1" Conduit Opening; Through-the-side mounting or special stereotype metal melting design.
- Sheath & Wetted Materials:
- PTHF: 304 Stainless Steel thin-blade elements.
- CIT: Heavy Iron bodies with 0.475" steel sheath tubular elements cast into the body; clamped on OMEGALUX® strip or tubular heaters in these applications.
Key Product Differences
The PTHF and CIT series differ fundamentally in construction, mounting style, and intended media:
- PTHF Series (Corrosive Solutions): Features thin-blade heating elements made of 304 Stainless Steel. These units utilize a PVC terminal box with over-the-side mounting for tank applications involving corrosive liquids.
- CIT Series (Soft Metal Melting): Utilizes rugged, cast iron sheathed heaters designed to withstand high temperatures up to 950°F required for melting soft metals. These units feature a fully enclosed cast iron terminal box and are available in through-the-side or special stereotype metal configurations.
