RTD-Pipe-Mount
RTD Pipe Mounts Sensor
- Versatile HVAC temperature sensing: Bullet Probe and Pipe Mount sensors are designed for commercial heating, cooling, building management systems, and PLC temperature monitoring.
- Ideal for pipe and coil applications: Pipe Mount models fit 1/2" to 1" pipes and are well suited for cooling coils, heating coils, hot water systems, chilled water systems, hydronic heating, and chillers.
- Improved thermal transfer: The contoured Pipe Mount design increases contact surface area with the pipe, helping deliver faster, more accurate surface temperature readings.
- Durable sensing construction: Bullet Probe models feature a 1" stainless steel probe, while Platinum RTD Pipe Mount models use a compact brass sensing element for reliable field installation.
- High-accuracy RTD options: Platinum RTD models offer Class A accuracy, with 100 Ohm and 1K Ohm options available in 2-wire or 3-wire configurations.
- Moisture-resistant performance: ACI’s double encapsulation process helps protect the sensing element from moisture while improving thermal response.
- Easy installation and integration: Non-polarity wiring options, 22 AWG etched Teflon leads, and standard controller analog-input compatibility simplify setup.
- Built for demanding environments: Operating ranges up to 200°C / 392°F on Platinum Pipe Mount models and humidity tolerance up to 95% support tough mechanical-room applications.
- Backed by trusted compliance and warranty: Products include CE, RoHS2, and WEEE approvals and are covered by ACI’s five-year limited warranty.

Supported Applications
The ACI Platinum Pipe Mount Series is a temperature sensor designed for use with electronic controllers in commercial heating and cooling building management systems. The series monitors air, water, or fluid temperatures on pipes and coils within HVAC infrastructure. Documented applications include Cooling Coils, Heating Coils, Hot Water Systems, Chilled Water Systems, Hydronic Heating Systems, and Chillers.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates across a process temperature range of -40 to 200°C (-40 to 392°F) with an ambient operating range of -40 to 85°C (-40 to 185°F). Storage is supported from -40 to 85°C (-40 to 185°F), and the sensor functions in humidity levels up to 10 to 95% RH condensing. The sensing element conforms to DIN EN 60751 (IEC 751) with a temperature coefficient of 3850 ppm / °C.
Accuracy is specified as Class A (+/- 0.06%) using the tolerance formula: +/- °C = (0.15°C + (0.002 * |t|)), where |t| is the absolute value of temperature above or below 0°C in °C. Specific accuracy points include:
- -40°C (-40°F): +/- 0.23°C (+/- 0.414°F)
- 0°C (32°F): +/- 0.15°C (+/- 0.27°F)
- 200°C (392°F): +/- 0.55°C (+/- 0.99°F)
Sensor stability is rated at +/- 0.03% after 1000 Hours @ 300°C (572°F). The nominal response time for a 63% step change is 8 Seconds.
Configuration Options
The series features a 1.1" long Brass sensing element with a slight curvature on the bottom to increase surface area and improve thermal conductivity between the pipe and sensor. The enclosure material is Brass, utilizing ACI's double encapsulation process with thermally conductive epoxy.
Sensor Elements & Outputs
Available in Platinum RTD configurations:
- A/100-xW-PM Series: 100 Ohms nominal at 0°C (32°F)
- A/1K-xW-PM Series: 1000 Ohms nominal at 0°C (32°F)
Wire Configurations & Leads
Sensors are offered in two-wire and three-wire configurations. The standard lead length is 24" (61 cm) with 22 AWG (0.65mm) Etched Teflon (PTFE) Colored Leads rated MIL-W-16878/4 (Type E). Conductor material is Silver Plated Copper.
- Two-wire options: Non-Polarity Sensitive
- Three-wire options (-3W): Polarity Sensitive; compensates for external lead wire resistance when used with 3-Wire temperature transmitters or PLCs. ACI recommends the use of 18 AWG lead wires to reduce external lead wire resistance.
Mounting & Accessories
The Pipe Mount sensor is designed for pipe or coil sizes from ½" (12.7mm) to 1" (25.4mm). A 7.5" nylon wire tie is supplied for fastening the sensor to the top of the pipe.
- Hardware, 2" Hose Clamp, Quick Release Worm Gear, 201/301 Stainless Steel (Item #100235)
- Thermal Grease options: Silicone Free, -40 to 320°F (-40 to 160°C) or -40 to 390°F (-40 to 198°C)
Cable & Certification Options
Optional configurations include Plenum Rated Cable (CL2P) and NIST Certificate (3 Points). Lead lengths available beyond the standard 24" include 6', 10' (3.05m), and 20' (6.10m).
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes between sensor resistance values, wire counts, lead lengths, cable ratings, and certification options.
- Sensor Resistance: A/100 (100 Ohm Platinum) vs. A/1K (1K Ohm Platinum).
- Wire Count: 2W (Two Wires, Non-Polarity Sensitive) vs. 3W (Three Wires, Polarity Sensitive for lead resistance compensation).
- Cable Rating: Standard Etched Teflon leads vs. CL2P Plenum Rated Cable.
- NIST Certification: Available as an option providing a NIST Certificate with 3 Points calibration data.
