Supported Applications

The Omega LV800 Series consists of RF capacitance point level sensors designed to detect the presence or absence of material at a specific location in a vessel. These switches are engineered for powder, bulk solids, liquid, and slurry applications across various industries.

  • Low Dielectric Materials: Plastics, soap oils, rubber, cement (dielectrics 1.5 to 3.0).
  • Moderate Dielectric Solids: Grains, fertilizers, feed, salt (dielectrics 3.0 to 9.0).
  • High Conductivity/Liquid Applications: Wastewater, slurries, and any water-based solutions.

The series includes configurations suitable for food-grade environments and offers a driven shield design that prevents false signals caused by material build-up on the probe.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The LV800 Series operates within an ambient temperature range of -40°C (-40°F) to 65°C (150°F). Internal bin temperatures are rated up to 80°C (176°F) with aluminum mounting, provided the ambient temperature remains below 40°C (104°F).

Performance specifications include:

  • Sensitivity Adjustment: Multi-turn potentiometer ranging from 0.5 pf to 150 pf.
  • Stability: ±0.027 pf per °C (±0.015 pf per °F) at the 0.5 pf setting.
  • Response Time: Adjustable delay-to-activate from 0.25 to 15 sec; fixed 0.25 sec delay-to-deactivate.
  • Output Relay: SPDT, rated for 5A @ 250 Vac or 30 Vdc maximum.

The sensors are housed in a cast aluminum screw-on cover with beige polyester powder coat, providing an enclosure rating of NEMA 4 (IP66). They are approved by CSA(US) and CSA(C) for ordinary locations and carry the CE mark for ordinary location use only. The maximum operating altitude is 2000 m (6562').

Pressure Ratings

Maximum pressure ratings depend on the connection material:

  • Aluminum Connection: 3.5 bar (50 psi) maximum.
  • ¾ NPT Stainless Steel Connection: 10 bar (150 psi) maximum.

Configuration Options

The LV800 Series is configurable across probe materials, lengths, power inputs, and process connections to accommodate specific installation requirements. The series supports standard probes, food-grade options, and stub configurations.

  • Probe Materials: 9.5 mm (⅜") diameter 316 SS probe and guard with PPS or nylon insulators.
  • Temperature Limits by Material: PPS rated to 232°C (450°F) maximum; Nylon rated to 148°C (300°F) maximum.
  • Power Supply Options: 115 Vac (±15%), 2.5 VA, 50/60 Hz or 230 Vac (±15%), 2.5 VA, 50/60 Hz.
  • Process Connections: Standard 1¼ NPT aluminum; optional 1¼ and ¾ NPT stainless steel on specific models.

The series features a high-intensity LED indicator (red/green) for power and operating mode status, along with a field-adjustable 'Sense Adjust' potentiometer for calibration. A fail-safe switch allows selection between HI/LO modes.

Key Product Differences

Differences within the LV800 Series are defined by model number, probe length, insulator material, and connection type:

  • Lv801 & LV803: 40 cm (16") PPS probes with 1¼ NPT aluminum connections. LV801 is powered by 115 Vac; LV803 is powered by 230 Vac.
  • Lv802: A stub probe configuration featuring a 23 cm (9") PPS probe with a 1¼ NPT aluminum connection, rated for 115 Vac power and temperatures up to 232°C (450°F).
  • Lv804: Features a 40 cm (16") food-grade nylon insulator probe with a 1¼ NPT aluminum connection, powered by 115 Vac.
  • Lv805: Equipped with a 40 cm (16") PPS probe and dual stainless steel connections (1¼ and ¾ NPT), supporting higher pressure ratings up to 10 bar (150 psi) on the smaller port, powered by 115 Vac.

Calibration procedures vary based on material dielectric properties. High sensitivity settings are used for materials with low relative dielectric constants and densities, while lower sensitivity adjustments accommodate highly conductive or high-dielectric liquids like wastewater.
