Supported Applications

The MDS8PT PLATINUM™ Series is a universal-input benchtop digital panel meter built for laboratory and portable temperature or process measurement. A single universal input accepts thermocouple, RTD, thermistor, or voltage/current signals, and the meter is factory configured and calibrated for use straight out of the box. Housed in a benchtop plastic enclosure based on a 1/8 DIN (96 x 48 mm) panel meter, it brings PLATINUM Series capability to the bench.

The signature Pt Series color-changing LED display can be programmed to switch between GREEN, AMBER, and RED at any set-point or alarm point, giving an immediate visual cue of process status. With dual alarm relays, isolated analog output, and serial or Ethernet communications (including Modbus®), the meter suits process monitoring and control, test benches, calibration labs, and general temperature and process indication.

Each meter ships with a power cord and user's guide. For safety, do not exceed the voltage rating, always disconnect power before changing signal or power connections, and do not operate in flammable or explosive environments.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The universal input covers a broad set of sensor types and signal ranges:

Thermocouple: Types J, K, T, E, R, S, B, N, C, and U
RTD: Pt100, Pt1000, Ni120, Ni1000
Thermistor: 10kΩ, 20kΩ, 50kΩ, 100kΩ
Voltage: ranges including 0-10 VDC down to millivolt spans
Current: 4-20 mA, 0-20 mA, 0-10 mA

Measurement accuracy is ±0.05% of reading ±1 digit with a resolution of 0.1 °C or 0.1 °F and a 1 second response time. The meter runs on 100-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz, operates from 0 °C to 50 °C, and stores from -20 °C to 60 °C at 0% to 90% RH, non-condensing. The enclosure carries an IP50 rating.

An isolated analog output can be configured for 0-20 mA, 4-20 mA, or 0-10 VDC, driving up to 500 Ω max on output 1. The benchtop unit measures 192 mm (W) x 100 mm (H) x 120 mm (D), weighs 0.8 kg, and reads out on a 7-segment LED display. It is CE and UKCA marked and UL US listed.

Configuration Options

The four models differ in two ways: display digit count and the communication/output options fitted. The MDS8PT models use a 4-digit LED display, while the MDS8EPT models use a 6-digit display for finer numeric readout. Both share the same universal input and color-changing display.

The option suffixes build up the meter's connectivity, following the PLATINUM feature codes:

-330: Dual Alarm Relays
-C24: Isolated RS232 and RS485
-EIP: Ethernet
-A: Isolated Analog Output

A base -330 model provides dual alarm relays only, while a fully optioned -330-C24-EIP-A model adds isolated RS232/485 serial communication, embedded Ethernet, and an isolated analog output — turning the same benchtop meter into a fully networked instrument.
