Supported Applications

The Omega OMPBD7 series comprises non-illuminated, heavy-duty pilot devices designed for demanding industrial environments. These oil-tight pushbuttons and selector switches serve as modular control elements in automation systems requiring robust mechanical operation. The series supports standard momentary and maintained operations across extended, flush, mushroom-style (30 mm, 40 mm, 60 mm), push-pull, twist-to-release E-stop, keyed, and toggle configurations.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The OMPBD7 series is engineered for continuous operation within an ambient temperature range of -25 to 70°C (-13 to 158°F), with short-term storage capability from -40 to 85°C (-40 to 185°F). Devices withstand humidity levels of 50...95% RH from 25 to 60°C (77 to 140°F) per Procedure IV of MIL-STD-810C, Method 507.1 cycling test.

Front-of-panel operators are rated IP66 for plastic and metal variants. Plastic operators carry NEMA 4/4X/13 ratings, while metal operators hold NEMA 4/13 ratings; note that momentary mushroom operators lack a Type 13 rating, and plastic operators with keys do not have a Type 4X rating.

Mechanical durability is rated at 10,000,000 cycles per EN 60947-5-1 (Annex C) for standard push buttons. The series withstands vibration of 10...2000 Hz with a maximum displacement of 1.52 mm peak-to-peak and 10 G max for durations up to 3 hours, as well as shock tested at 1/2 cycle sine wave for 11 ms with no damage at 100 G.

Electrical performance includes a thermal current rating of 10 A max enclosed (40°C ambient) per UL 508 and EN 60947-5-1. Standard contact blocks are rated for 600 Vac, AC15, DC 13 to EN 60947-5-1 and UL 508, with a minimum of 17 V, 5 mA. Low voltage contact blocks support 5V, 1mA DC min.

Configuration Options

The series offers extensive configurability across operator materials, button styles, operation types, and electrical contacts to meet specific control panel requirements.

  • Housing Materials: Plastic operators utilize high-grade thermoplastics; metal operators feature die-cast zinc housing with corrosion-resistant chrome plating.
  • Button Styles & Operations: Available in extended, flush, mushroom (30 mm, 40 mm, 60 mm), push-pull, twist-to-release E-stop, and keyed configurations. Operation modes include momentary, maintained, selector switch, key selector switch, toggle switch, and multi-function.
  • Contact Configurations: Supports up to six contact blocks per operator. Options include NO (Normally Open), NC (Normally Closed), NCLB (Late Break - positive opening), NOEM (Early Make), and GCB (Guardian Contact Block for E-stops).
  • Electrical Connections: Screw terminals (IP20 recessed) or spring-clamp terminals. Wire capacity ranges from #18...14 AWG (0.75...1.5 mm²) for spring-clamp and #18...12 AWG (0.75...2.5 mm²) max for screw terminals.
  • Customization: Inscription caps (e.g., "START", "STOP") and legends (black with white letters such as "AUTO", "OFF", "RUN") are available to label specific functions.

Key Product Differences

The OMPBD7 series is divided into two primary operator families: Plastic (OMPBD7P) and Metal (OMPBD7M). While both share similar electrical ratings, they differ in mechanical mounting torque and specific NEMA approvals.

  • Mounting Torque: Plastic operators require 1.7 N·m (15 lb-in); metal operators require 4.4 N·m (40 lb-in).
  • NEMA Ratings: Plastic operators are rated UL Type 3/3R/4/4X/12/13; metal operators are rated UL Type 3/3R/4/12/13.
  • Contact Durability: Both operator types maintain a contact durability of 10,000,000 cycles per EN 60947-5-1 (Annex C).
