Supported Applications

The Omega Nomad Portable Temperature Datalogger with Backlit LCD Display is a handheld instrument designed for temperature data logging. The series supports configurable parameters, alarm logging capabilities, and graph channel visualization via its touch screen interface.

Operating Conditions & Performance

This 6-channel logger accepts inputs from thermocouples (Types J, K, T, R, S, N, E) and Pt100 sensors. Measurement ranges vary by sensor type: Type J (-200°C to 1200°C), Type K (-200°C to 1372°C), Type T (-200°C to 400°C), Types R/S (0°C to 1768°C), Type N (0°C to 1300°C), and Type E (-200°C to 1000°C). Pt100 inputs support -200°C to 850°C. Accuracy is specified as ± 0.1% or 0.8°C for thermocouple channels, with a resolution of 0.1° for temperatures below 1000° (C or F).

The device operates in ambient conditions from 0 to 50°C and features a display response time of 1 s. It includes signal processing functions such as average, minimum, maximum, standard deviation, and 2-channel differential calculations.

Key Performance Specifications

  • Display: 1.87° (72 mm) resolution touch TFT with 320 x 240 pixels and backlighting.
  • Data Logging Interval: Configurable from 1 to 68,400 seconds (1 day).
  • Storage Capacity: Supports up to a 32 GB SD card; includes a 4 GB SD Card.
  • File Format: CSV output compatible with Excel import.

Configuration Options

The series is configured for portable field use and benchtop monitoring. It features stereo (3-pole) 3.5 mm connectors for miniature thermocouple connections on all six channels: four dedicated to thermocouples and two to Pt100 inputs.

Power & Connectivity

  • Battery: Operates with 2 x 5 V NiMH rechargeable AA batteries > 2000 mAh (not supplied) or 2 x 1.5 V Alkaline AA batteries > 2000 mAh (not supplied).
  • Mains Adapter: Includes a 5 V DC 250 mA adapter.
  • Current Draw: Draws up to 250 mA while logging with full display brightness; typical weight is 180 g in power saving mode.

Safety & Electrical Limits

The instrument must not be used around explosive gas, vapour, or dust. Maximum input voltage limits are strictly defined to prevent damage:

  • Do not apply more than 60 V DC or 24 V rms between any input and earth ground.
  • Do not apply more than 60 V DC or 24 V rms between any two terminals.

Configurable Parameters

Users can configure temperature units (°C or °F), alarms, signal processing settings, date and time, data logging parameters, power options, and graph channels. The system supports 12 x alarms (2 per channel) with adjustable levels individually configurable as HI or LO.

Key Product Differences

The series is available in two primary configurations:

  • RDXL6SD: The standard 6-channel handheld temperature data logger package, which includes the unit, a 4 GB SD Card, and the 5 V DC mains adapter.
  • RDXL6-LVMA: A spare 5 V DC mains adapter accessory for replacement or additional power needs.
