Supported Applications
The Omega RD8300 series is a networkable, paperless recorder and data acquisition system built for industrial environments. It uses a 142 mm (5.6") color TFT LCD with a rugged touch screen and supports up to 12 universal inputs, including analog, pulse and frequency, and thermocouple and RTD signals, so a single unit can log a diverse mix of process measurements.
Because it is NEMA 4 (IP65) compliant and stores data in an encrypted binary format on removable media, the system suits dusty or wet installations and applications where secure, tamper-resistant records are required. A lockable front media door and three levels of password protection add physical and access security, while a standard Ethernet port supports networked monitoring.
Operating Conditions & Performance
Universal inputs cover DC voltage, DC current, thermocouple, RTD, and frequency or pulse signals. DC voltage ranges are ±125 mV, ±250 mV, ±500 mV, ±1.00V, ±3.0V, ±6.0V, ±12.0V, and ±24.0V, and DC current ranges are 4 to 20 mA, 0 to 20 mA, and 10 to 50 mA.
Thermocouple ranges are wide, for example Type J from -210 to 1200 °C, Type K from -270 to 1372 °C, Type S from -50 to 1768 °C, and Type B from 0 to 1820 °C, while RTD support includes a 100 Ω Pt 385 element covering -220 to 85 °C. Measurement resolution is 0.0015% of full scale at 16 bit.
- DC voltage accuracy: ranges to 1V at ±0.06% and ranges above 1V at ±0.1%.
- DC current accuracy: ±0.15% using an external 50 Ω 0.1% shunt.
- Thermocouple accuracy: ±2.5 °C (0 to 50 °C); RTD base accuracy 0.2% or 0.5 °C (1 °F); frequency accuracy 0.005% ±1 digit.
- Outputs and power: 6 or 12 relay outputs, a standard Ethernet port, and a 24V transmitter power supply.
- Enclosure: NEMA 4 (IP65) compliant with a shallow installation depth of 165 mm (6.5").
Data can be stored to CompactFlash, USB, or SD media, and the recorders carry UL, NIST, RoHS, and CE.
Configuration Options
Every RD8300 model shares the same touch-screen interface, universal inputs, encrypted storage, and Ethernet networking. Models differ by the base recorder and by the ordering suffixes that set memory, relay outputs, power input, and additional factory options.
Relay Outputs
Relay capacity is selected through the suffix, with -R6 providing 6 relay outputs and -R12 providing 12 relay outputs, matching the series' 6 or 12 relay output capability.
Memory and Power
The -2GB suffix specifies onboard memory, while the -DC suffix specifies a DC power input for installations without AC power.
Additional Options
Further ordering options are appended as suffixes such as -ST, -C24, and -XP, so a recorder can be built up from a base model to a fully optioned configuration.
Key Product Differences
The series is offered in two base recorders, RD8306 and RD8312, each available with combinations of memory, relay, power, and option suffixes. A base unit can be ordered plain or with one or more suffixes stacked to reach the required configuration.
